Job overview
* We are looking for an experienced RN/ODP to take on a Team leader role for the PACU and Recovery unit within inpatient theatres.
* The candidate will be providing support on the upskilling and maintaining of competencies of staff who work in PACU, particularly providing supervision on HDU/ITU adjunct to Recovery skills.
* Our mission is to deliver outstanding care at all times to patients treated in our operating theatres and to do that, we need exceptional people.
* To act as the professional role model, leading and co-ordinating the nursing team.
* To have continuous responsibility for the management & organisation of the ward/department.
* To be accountable for the overall provision of excellent nursing care and to work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
* The successful post holder will have the prime responsibility for leading the team, working to promote a positive culture of collaborative working, providing professional leadership and skilled knowledge.
* Working alongside our other team leaders, reporting to the Matron, your duties will include but not limited to leading clinical shifts, investigating adverse incidents, planning and implementing actions to ensure learning is shared across the department, undertaking quality audits, roster management, budget management and recruitment.
* You will have the motivation, vision and leadership qualities necessary to lead a safe, productive and efficient anaesthetic team.
* As a key member of the team, you will have the ability to support, teach and develop junior staff and facilitate the delivery of high standards of patient care in the operating theatres.
* You will be a team player, empathetic and able to remain calm and composed under pressure.
* This role also requires reassuring manner and the understanding of the rights, privacy & dignity and safeguarding of all patients.

Person specification
Qualification & Training
* Registered nurse or operating department practitioner
* Relevant post-registration experience in HDU/ITU (at least 2 years in anaesthetic)
* Mentorship qualification and experience in practice supervision and assessment
* Mentorship qualification or working towards advanced studies leading to BSc or evidence of further professional development
* Relevant training or post-registration qualification in Leadership and/or Management
* Substantial experience in perioperative and anaesthetic care, demonstrating comprehensive clinical knowledge in anaesthesia procedures, equipment, and patient safety protocols
* Relevant MSc qualification or working towards attaining MSc
Organisational Management
* Demonstrate an ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care according to individual needs
* Demonstrate an ability to effectively prioritise and organise own workload and workload of others
* High standard of verbal and written communication skills
* Evidence of implementing change in practice
* Demonstrate ability to manage team schedules, allocate resources efficiently, and maintain high standards of care.
* Proven experience in leadership role within perioperative setting, with ability to inspire, lead, and develop a multidisciplinary team
* Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, with capability to respond effectively to clinical and operational challenges.
* Experience in staff sickness management
* Experience in quality improvement or project management

General
* Knowledge of clinical governance, quality standards, and regulatory compliance within anaesthetic and perioperative services.
