The successful applicant will be joining an enthusiastic, dedicated team led by 24 consultant general paediatricians who cover a wide range of different specialties and provide general and sub-specialist paediatric care.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be joining an enthusiastic, dedicated team led by 24 consultant general paediatricians who cover a wide range of different specialties and provide general and sub-specialist paediatric care. There is a full complement of junior staff working on full shift rotas, 2 senior ANPs and 2 Specialty Doctors and is separate from the neonatal rota.
Option to attend a variety of different outpatient clinics to gain further experience: Diabetes, epilepsy, renal, cardiology, safeguarding, rapid access acute general paediatrics, rheumatology, endocrinology, neurology, respiratory, allergy, metabolic, genetics, haemostasis/haemoglobinopathy, surgery.
Job responsibilities
The Childrens inpatient provision consists of a purpose-built childrens decision area/assessment (5 cubicle)/ 9 bed observation area and 41-bed childrens ward. There is also a day case ward.
Day time paediatric services are covered by 2 Consultants of the week. Out of hours, the service is provided by: on call Consultant, resident middle grade x 2 (Specialty Registrar ST3-8 or experienced ANP) and resident Tier 1 (FY2-ST2) doctor. Day time Foundation 1 (FY2) x 2 trainees. There is also a fully staffed community paediatric & child development centre with 9 Consultants and a neonatal unit with 6 Consultants.
Bradford Neonatology provides neonatal care for over 6000 inborn deliveries a year. There is no input to the neonatology service in this post. Bradford has a diverse and interesting/complex cohort of patients including those with a vast array of general paediatric & complex neurodisability problems, metabolic conditions, bleeding disorders.
Clinical Training Requirements
BLS and Trust mandatory training, APLS or equivalent.
Workload / Rota Arrangements
Full time position on rota as 1 of 12 middle grade doctors/experienced ANPs.
Teaching opportunities available
Teaching & tutoring of medical students; paediatric department teaching.
Training opportunities available
Opportunity to be involved in department research projects and to complete audit/clinical improvement cycle. Attendance at outpatient clinics, including rapid access clinics, depending on rota. In situ simulation Experience in safeguarding/child protection. Multidisciplinary team (MDT) working.

Qualifications

* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
* Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment
* Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies by the time of appointment in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice
* Evidence of achievement of ST1 / CT1 competencies in the specialty at time of application and likelihood of achieving ST2 / CT2 competences in specialty by the start date of the post.
