Main duties of the job
Within this role you will treat patients with complex medical conditions such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, vascular insufficiencies, physical or other disabilities and other vulnerable groups.
In this role you will be required to:
1. Be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of Podiatric Care for patients.
2. Provide a range of treatments to a variety of patients including screening, palliative care, health promotion and intensive therapeutics.

Job responsibilities
Principle Responsibilities Clinical Duties:
1. To assess, diagnose, develop specialised treatment plans and provide effective podiatric treatments, using a problem-solving approach based on clinical need and evidence-based practice.
2. To provide early intervention whenever possible to enable long-term gain.
3. To commit to the philosophy of care with an emphasis on patient empowerment and independence by providing education and information to help patients manage their own foot needs.
4. To provide services at a wide variety of sites including a patients home, clinics, GP practices, community hospitals and in challenging conditions, often working in isolation.
5. To manage clinical risk within own patient caseload seeking guidance as appropriate.
6. To ensure all patients are appropriately assessed prior to referring to the assistant grade.
7. To undertake diagnostic procedures effectively using appropriate equipment e.g. wound swabs, Doppler ultrasound.
8. To be proficient in comprehensive neurological and vascular assessments, wound debridement, advanced pathology and wound management e.g. dressing selection.
9. To carry out a thorough medical assessment to ensure suitability of local anaesthesia and minor surgery.
10. To undertake specialist surgical intervention for complex nail pathologies.
11. To undertake basic biomechanical assessments in order to prescribe, manufacture and dispense orthotics or simple insoles.
12. To maintain a domiciliary caseload.
13. To maintain clear, comprehensive and accurate records.
14. To actively participate in clinical support and utilise reflective practice as a method to ensure quality of care.
15. To teach and assess students, newly qualified podiatrists and podiatry assistants.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent in podiatry.
* HCPC Registration.
Experience
* Previous NHS experience and experience of working with high-risk patients / Step down wounds.
Additional Criteria
* Full drivers license with access to a car for work purposes.
