Continuum Industries is on a mission to help the world accelerate the transition to a more sustainable future using Artificial Intelligence. We have developed Optioneer, an AI-powered tool that helps plan new infrastructure projects much faster, more sustainably and with lower risk. Since launch, we have supported over 40,000 km of new linear infrastructure; underground and subsea power cables, overhead transmission lines, hydrogen, and water pipelines. Optioneer is already used by enterprise infrastructure organisations such as National Grid, BP, RWE, SSEN Transmission, Iberdrola and National Gas Transmission in the US, UK and Europe.
Our Engineering team has more than doubled in size in the last 12 months and we expect to grow further as we approach and go into 2025.
We'll be looking for Senior Backend Engineers to join our Applications Team (currently ~13 people) comprised of a mix of front end, back end, full stack and DevOps expertise. Based in our Edinburgh office and working on a flexible hybrid model, we all have a passion for both engineering (all kinds) and technology with a positive impact.
Optioneer is a data-rich application. We ingest geospatial data on a national scale which Optioneer uses to create optimal routes for infrastructure based on hundreds (if not thousands) of constraints. It is used by people with highly specialised knowledge in the infrastructure industry such as Civil/Design/GIS Engineers, Environmental Consultants and Project Managers to significantly reduce the time in which linear infrastructure is planned and developed.
If you'd like to register your interest hit apply and we'll be in touch if there is an alignment when we start to actively hire!
Key Responsibilities:
* Ownership & Delivery of Features: Lead the development and delivery of complex features, taking ownership from inception to deployment and beyond.
* Design & Architecture: Improve code structure and architecture and optimise for performance at scale.
* Best practice: Help to implement (and recommend) the best software design/development practices in the team.
* Collaborate: Work with cross-functional teams to ensure timely delivery and alignment with product goals.
* Driving & Delivering New Functionality: Finding ways to improve the flow of data and ensuring data integrity as we scale.
* Conduct Research: Stay updated on emerging technologies to continuously enhance product capabilities.
* Mentoring & Teaching: You'll set aside time to mentor, teach, and learn from your colleagues. You'll actively provide colleagues with feedback and suggestions to help us all perform at our very best.
You'll bring:
* Technical Knowledge: Python and/or Golang | AWS (or other Cloud platforms) | Postgres | Microservices | Software Architecture | ORM.
* Continuous Improvement: You write good quality code but you don’t stop there, you’ve looked for ways to optimise and improve both structure and design.
* Impact: You’ll have held positions of responsibility in previous roles, owning features and driving their delivery but also making demonstrable improvements to a product or service.
* Collaborative Mentality: It’s your default setting (and ours), our belief is we achieve more when we work together and you enjoy sharing/hearing about different ideas.
* Communication: You have and will work on multiple projects simultaneously spanning both features and teams, you’ll know how valuable good communication is to being effective and will default to seeking clarity rather than assuming knowledge.
What you'll get:
* Base salary + equity.
* Ownership: You’ll own a piece of our company through our share option scheme.
* Flexible working environment & hours. We're outcome-focused.
* Annual vacation entitlement: 34 days including local holidays.
* Technology: A brand new Macbook (and work-from-home budget).
* Extensive upskilling opportunities (one dedicated learning day each month + learning budget).
* An opportunity to help us accelerate the world’s transition to net zero, and rewire the world with cleaner, green energy.
