As an autonomous practitioner, you will be legally and professionally responsible and accountable for the management of patients. This includes prioritising your workload and keeping accurate contemporaneous records. You will be responsible for the provision of highly skilled and specialised autonomous orthoptic assessment, diagnosis, and management/treatment of all types of ocular motility defects, imparting information to patients and carers. Management includes formulating individualised treatment plans. Development of Services Work with support from senior colleagues. Effective verbal communication with patients and carers to gain cooperation, handling complex, sensitive, and contentious information regarding diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment. Clinical Responsibilities Supplies and instils eye drops under exemptions, Patient Group Directives, and doctors' instructions. Conduct community paediatric orthoptic clinics. Utilize Humphrey and Goldmann perimetry. Plan and manage clinical workload within the appointment system and clinical time. Supervision and Teaching Provide clinical supervision of less experienced orthoptists. Oversee orthoptic teaching of multidisciplinary professionals. Teach, supervise, and assess undergraduate orthoptic students. Data Management Undertake patient data collection as required for the management of the service, audit, and research and development.
