Job Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual to join our Medical Pay and Workforce Team at NHS Employers. The Medical Pay & Workforce team deliver designated work programmes that co-ordinate national negotiations/discussions on the reform of pay and terms and conditions of service for NHS doctors and dentists as well as support medical education, quality and standards and medical workforce supply.
Main duties of the job
This Senior Programme Support Officer will support the delivery of the medical pay & workforce programme through:
* engaging with employers to identify their views on key policy developments relating to education and training, quality and standards and medical workforce supply
* assisting team members to co-ordinate and provide the secretariat for national negotiations and discussions with trades unions
* supporting employers understand and implement national policy and contractual obligations.

Job Description
Job responsibilities
* Overseeing and providing high quality secretariat support for national meetings of employer and trades union representatives. This includes preparing agendas, drafting meeting papers, taking minutes, following up actions and completing delegated projects as required.
* Engaging with employers and supporting them with responding to new challenges and national policy changes. This includes gathering good practice examples and understanding the challenges that employers are currently facing.
* Researching and developing key resources to support employers in delivering these changes. This involves drafting guidance and case studies and working with our communications team.
* Working with other team members to plan and facilitate our regular events for our employer networks, such as the Contract Experts Group and the Guardians of Safe Working Hours group.
* Ensuring that effective and timely communications are delivered to employers about latest developments in our work. This could involve drafting web content, scheduling social media posts or providing updates at network meetings.
* Responsibility for answering queries from employers from our mailboxes in an accurate and timely way, providing excellent customer service. You will understand any problems, signpost to relevant online information and escalate within the team where appropriate.
* Responsibility for the maintenance of the medical pay & workforce section of the NHS Employers website. This will involve amending and updating the website as required.
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
* Understanding of NHS workforce and the political and policy issues currently affecting the NHS
* Knowledge of HR and employment relations issues
* Some knowledge of NHS medical contractual terms and conditions of service and their application
* Experience in supporting the smooth running of meetings with multiple stakeholders
* Able to work independently by effective management of workload and ability to work to tight deadlines
* Good IT skills and an excellent knowledge of MS Office packages
* Good problem-solving skills
* Ability to establish effective working relationships with colleagues and external bodies
* Good oral and written communication skills, including good presentation and networking skills
* Ability to effectively summarise information.
Desirable
* Experience of working in an NHS HR / medical staffing environment
* Experience of engaging with trade unions
