Macclesfield | Transport Manager
Seeking: A People focused, savvy, operationally focused Transport Manager who is fully on board with 100% compliance and Health and Safety requirements. Experience in a fast paced manufacturing/distribution environment is a strong desirable.
The role as Transport Manager is to oversee, manage and optimize the day to day transport operation. The role is responsible for managing fleet operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, improving cost efficiency, and enhancing delivery performance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Plan, coordinate, and oversee the transportation of Manufacturing and Distribution orders – including doors, cassettes, glass and consumables.
2. Manage fleet operations, including vehicle maintenance, fuel consumption, and driver schedules.
3. Develop and implement cost-effective and efficient transport strategies.
4. Ensure compliance with local, national, and international transport regulations and safety standards.
5. Monitor transport budgets and work towards cost reduction while maintaining service levels.
6. Optimize routes and schedules to improve delivery efficiency and reduce transit times.
7. Supervise and manage transport staff, including drivers and transport office functions.
8. Maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance, driver performance, and transport expenses.
9. Liaise with suppliers, customers, and internal departments to ensure smooth transport operations.
10. Implement and oversee health and safety policies related to transportation.
11. Utilize transportation management systems (TMS) for tracking and reporting.
12. Staff management- performance reviews, recruitment, training and development, holiday and absence management.
13. Vehicle Management- compliance with H&S and legal requirements, leasing arrangements, Mileage Monitoring, Service Scheduling, fuel card management.
14. Overseeing transport route plans and van load plans reporting of KPI’s including Van/HGV utilisation targets and financial variances to budget.
15. Liaison with customer services and shop floor management to ensure that daily despatches are planned and organised on time.
16. Dealing with customer queries or contacting customers regarding changes to despatch schedules.
17. Overseeing safe and on time daily loading procedures.
18. Using Maxoptra system for route planning.
19. Work cross functionally with the manufacturing and warehouse teams to maintain high OTIF% to the customers.

2. Transport department 100% compliant with no gaps.

6. Managing and improving Transport processes.
