Job summary We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Band 7 Biomedical Scientist, Training Officer, to join the friendly team in the Cellular Pathology department at Broomfield Hospital. Cellular Pathology at Broomfield Hospital is a busy department that incorporates Histology and Non-gynae sample preparations. The department handles approximately 30,000 specimens p.a. (including non-gynae cytology) and specialises in Breast, urology, skin, H&N and upper GI. The laboratory is working towards accreditation and is licensed by HTA. You will be required to participate in all areas of the department, on a rotational basis. The post-holder will be required to obtain and maintain competency in all relevant aspects of the laboratory. You will be required to manage staff training and development and to organise a robust and fluid work flow to aid TAT and Trust directives To work as part of a team to provide a high quality, cost effective and timely Histology service, as required by the Trust and its users. To work as part of a team to provide a high quality, cost effective and timely Histology service, as required by the Trust and service users. To participate in all aspects of the histology department, using technical expertise to a high standard throughout all investigations and meeting deadlines as required for subsequent patient care. To ensure that the demands of the department are managed to facilitate a high quality of work with an efficient workflow. To be involved in, and in some cases responsible for, service developments. To manage and support in the training of trainee BMS staff, Associate Practitioners and Medical Laboratory Assistants and contribute to their development. To participate in recruitment of staff. To carry out appraisal of staff. To be responsible for QC and QA in area of responsibility, ensuring non-conformances are investigated, documented and changes to practice identified where necessary, in association with the Quality Lead. To participate in and undertake audit. To be responsible for writing and maintaining SOPs in area of responsibility. To report, investigate and monitor errors and incidents as per policies. To be responsible for risk and COSHH assessments in area of responsibility.
