Deputy Chief Pharmacy Technician

Job overview
Due to a change in service provision, an exciting opportunity for a Band Six Deputy Chief Pharmacy Technician post within Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust has been created. This post will be the technical lead for our new cluster area covering Meadowbrook, Laurette house, and Moorside Unit. You will manage the on-site dispensary and work closely with our third-party provider for off-site inpatient supplies and discharges. The sites are EMPA, and we work closely with the CMHT in the areas including the running of a clozapine clinic. This is a new post looking for someone with fresh ideas to bring this role to life; however, you will have a network of support including other deputy chief pharmacy technicians and the lead pharmacist for each site.
The Pharmacy Department at Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust has over 60 staff members, working across a number of sites and dispensaries. The post holder will be primarily based at Park House Hospital but would be expected to cover across all sites.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to ensure the provision of quality, effective pharmacy services to improve patient care in mental health services, support the development and delivery of education and training programmes for pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals, and ensure the management of financial and procurement systems to monitor drug expenditure and trends.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates must be registered pharmacy technicians with the General Pharmaceutical Council in accordance with mandatory professional requirements, hold the BTEC Professional Diploma in Dispensing Checking, have experience of hospital pharmacy, and an interest in the specialist field of mental health. There is a requirement to work across all sites within GMMH.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Pay Enhancements – 30% additional for Evenings (8pm onwards) and Saturdays and 60% additional for Sundays and Bank holidays.
* 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays rising to 29 after 5 years and 33 days after 10 years.
* Evidence of leadership and/or management qualification.
* BTEC Level Four Professional Diploma in Accuracy Checking of Dispensed Items.
* Formal training in specialised area of mental health.
Experience
* Experience and knowledge of working in mental health services.
* Evidence of line management and supervision of staff.
* Evidence of operational management and development of technical pharmacy services.
* Current knowledge of NHS modernisation programmes.
* Evidence of training and mentoring pharmacy staff.
* Experience of management of change.
Knowledge and Skills
* Understanding of medicines management issues and policies.
* Understanding of clinical governance.
* Experience in implementation and management of pharmacy and clinical IT systems.
* Experience in drug expenditure monitoring involving third party suppliers.
* Experience in interpretation of financial data.
* Demonstrates an understanding of finance systems.
* Experience of monitoring drug budget.
* Member of APTUK.
