Job Summary
To carry out a full range of porterage duties within the hospital which will include the movement of patients, transportation of equipment, furniture, pathology specimens, linen and waste.
Porters may be required to cover Chargehand porter tasks, at the appropriate rate, when necessary.
Main Duties of the Job
1. All porterage requests must be prioritised and response times met.
2. Carry out the movement of patients from department to department using wheelchairs or trolleys.
3. Assist nursing staff with the movement of patient beds.
4. Carry out the delivery of Pharmacy Supplies and collection of Pharmacy boxes from Wards and departments.
5. Ensure routine tasks are completed such as the porterage of pathology samples and security duties.
6. Collection and delivery of mail items to and from wards and departments.
7. Trace and collect patient case notes on request using the Medicorr system, ensuring the correct notes are collected and they are tracked on the system correctly.
8. Ensure domestic waste, clinical waste and soiled linen is collected, transported and stored in accordance with procedure.
9. Clean the Clinical waste and soiled linen stores on a regular basis.
10. Carry out furniture moves, assessing the manual handling beforehand.
11. Ensure linen cages are moved to and from the linen room.
12. Transport Oxygen cylinders to wards on request, checking the gauges beforehand.
13. Take delivery of oxygen cylinders and ensure they are stored correctly.
14. Change the Nitrous Oxygen cylinders in the store when alerted by the alarm.

Specific Role Requirements:
The post holder will be required to undergo a 2-week training period and a further 2 weeks shadowing on commencement in post. It is likely to take several weeks before the post holder is fully competent to carry out the full range of tasks on his/her own.
