Purpose of the Role:
We are looking to hire a Senior Legal Counsel to join our team, and work across our healthcare and social care and education businesses. You will manage a small team of lawyers predominantly supporting the business' contracting needs and activities with customers. In addition, you will have an opportunity to work across a broader range of corporate affairs such as employment, property, governance, compliance, and supplier relations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
You will be required to take the lead on high value contract negotiations and support a wider team on managing contract renewals and amendments (CCNs). You will take responsibility for the day-to-day management of the legal department working alongside the sales and bid management teams and will have an opportunity to design and manage legal/commercial processes. You will also provide advice to the Senior Management Team on ad hoc legal matters and, more regularly, as part of our contract approval process.
Other aspects of the role may include:
* Advising on procurement matters including, in particular, central and local government framework agreements and their associated call-off terms and conditions.
* Providing legal support and guidance on a number of IT-specific contract areas including retention and licensing of IP, implementation services, acceptance testing and service level agreements.
* Support System C's compliance function by identifying and managing contract risk.
* Assisting the General Counsel with the preparation of management reports, corporate governance and M&A work.
Requirements:
This role requires you to possess a degree and to hold a legal professional qualification, ideally as a Solicitor. You should be an excellent negotiator and not be afraid to get into the detail. Experience in dealing with public sector and/or contracts or similar matters in the IT field (particularly licensing arrangements, data protection/IG in social care IT or related fields) is desired. Knowledge of and experience in commercial bidding, tendering, negotiation, and sales skills would be beneficial.
You should know what it takes to be a good manager, take ownership and have an interest in the development of your reports and the people around you.
Skills Required:
* Experience working in-house and/or specific experience within the healthcare sector or public sector.
* Excellent writing proficiency and attention to detail - precise, succinct, simple but not oversimplified.
* Negotiation ability - comfortable carrying the flag for System C group businesses in contract negotiations with public sector customers who may be represented by experienced procurement advisers and/or IT-savvy lawyers.
* Demonstrated interest in legal, contract matters within healthcare and/or information technology.
* Strong organisation and time management skills.
* PC skills - MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, DocuSign and SharePoint.
Desirable:
* UK public procurement law knowledge - legal and practical.
* Previous experience working in a large corporate environment.
