About this role.
As our Software Engineering Manager, you’ll spearhead the software development function across Bakkavor Group IT with full ownership of the software engineering strategy, tooling and core leadership in Software Engineering. You’ll lead a talented team of 10 software developers across two development teams, oversee the entire software development lifecycle, and ensure our IT applications perform seamlessly as we implement our visionary SAP S4/HANA solution.
As a Software Engineering Manager, you’ll engineer software solutions for business improvement projects and support the existing Group IT application and integration estate. As part of the Group IT Business Systems team, you'll foster an environment that challenges the status quo and delivers high-quality, innovative solutions. This role spans various business processes and requires extensive experience, strong stakeholder engagement skills, and a proven leadership track record in major software delivery programs.
Key role responsibilities.
Define and articulate the vision and strategy for software engineering discipline, ensuring alignment with business objectives during SAP S4/HANA implementation.
Provide software engineering solutions for business improvement projects, ensuring availability and performance of IT applications and integrations.
Design and implement IT solutions, acting as a trusted advisor to build relationships with IT leaders and business teams.
Define project scope, deliverables, timelines, and resource requirements, and collaborate with project and programme management for successful execution.
Operate within programme governance structure, delivering quality technical and project governance artefacts.
Collaborate with external vendors and partners, manage relationships, evaluate proposals, and oversee vendor performance.
Develop and implement change management strategies, ensure smooth transition and user acceptance of new technologies and processes.
Manage change activity into production service efficiently, ensuring data integrity and security in integrations.
Troubleshoot incidents and provide resolutions for IT changes, proactively seeking improvements to reduce support work.
Engage with stakeholders to understand requirements, gather feedback, and manage expectations throughout the software engineering process.
Work with IT senior leadership team on service portfolio and governance to prioritise resources and enable cost-effective solutions.
About you.
You'll be a seasoned leader with strong FMCG/CPG experience and exceptional software engineering skills. Your track record includes successful delivery of major IT-change projects. You'll excel in stakeholder engagement, adapting to diverse audiences and offering coherent, constructive, and persuasive guidance. Colleagues will value your opinions, and you'll thrive in ambiguous situations, driving clarity with decisiveness and pragmatism. Your expertise extends across finance, procurement, and supply chain management.
What we’d like to see.
Proven experience in a software engineering management role.
Strong technical background in the relevant technologies.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and teams effectively.
.Net Frameworks (C# and VB.Net)
Integration technologies such as BizTalk and Azure Integration Services
Excellent knowledge of database management systems such as Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle
REST / SOAP services
Authentication methods such as OIDC / JWT
Secure coding standards (OWASP, STRIDE) and penetration testing (Burp Suite)
Software development principles and architecture patterns
Knowledge of testing methodologies (unit, integration tests) and tools
Knowledge of DevOps with demonstratable experience in building automation (builds, deployments, testing, infrastructure as code)
Experience working with Waterfall and Agile methodologies.
