The Opportunity
A challenging and interesting new opportunity has arisen at this leading national M&E Contractor for an experienced Estimating Manager. As the Estimating Manager, you will be supporting the Business by overseeing all aspects of Estimating activities within this department.
The Position
Duties and responsibilities will include:
1. Supervising the Estimating Team.
2. Assisting in the management and completion of 'Expressions of Interest', conducting the 'decision to bid' process, Prequalifications, and Questionnaires.
3. Participating in management reviews of workload and opportunities.
4. Ensuring full compliance with all company systems, processes, and procedures, and ensuring that all bids are controlled in accordance with corporate governance levels and procedures.
5. Maintaining a consistent approach to estimates prepared and delivered by using the Companies Estimating Package (Cypher).
6. Maintaining financial records of completed bids to maintain a feel for competitive/winning market levels.
7. Managing, directing, and setting win strategies for bids.
8. Leading bid strategy, review, and settlement meetings.
9. Ensuring estimator costs within bids are validated before submission.
10. Planning, allocating, and managing resources (internal and external) to process bids successfully.
11. Supporting the development and training of staff within the Estimating team, including annual staff appraisals.
12. Managing the Internal and External Estimating resource.
13. Managing the tender enquiry process.
14. Managing receipt of tender enquiry and ensuring the project is entered onto the “Estimating” tracker by the team.
15. Reading specification/tender documentation and requesting any further information that may be required.
16. Reading and understanding main contractor terms and conditions and advising any issues in contract before the tender process is finalized.
17. Attending the final review/settlement meeting by directors/Pre-Construction Manager.
18. Assisting with the preparation of the tender documents and qualifications letter for offer to client.
19. Monitoring the supply chain, suppliers, and working closely with the Head of Commercial and buying department to ensure that the right price and best sub-contractor bases are utilized during the tendering process, to ensure improved visibility & efficiency between the estimating/buying departments.
20. Handing over projects to the delivery team including better buying opportunities.
21. Reading, understanding, and always implementing the Company Health and Safety Policy and QA.
The Person
* The successful candidate will have a strong estimating background preferably gained from working in a Building Services environment.
* Excellent interpersonal and customer-facing skills.
* Good spoken and written communication skills.
* Good organizational and problem-solving skills.
