The post holder will be responsible for providing specialist training to Health Board staff (clinical and non-clinical) in areas relating to Manual Handling Health & Ergonomics in line with Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the All Wales Manual Handling Passport Scheme.
The Health Board has a statutory requirement to deliver to all staff the revised All Wales Manual Handling Passport scheme. The post holder will be responsible for leading the planning, delivery and undertaking competency assessments on staff in relation to this scheme.
Main duties of the job
To be an additional training resource relating to Manual Handling, Health Ergonomics and the All Wales Manual Handling Passport Scheme. The complexity and severity of the contact will vary and the post holder will need to apply a practical problem-solving approach whilst ensuring all appropriate actions are followed through to mitigate risk and optimise safety, including escalating concerns appropriately.
To provide specialist ergonomic training to all staff within the organisation. This advice is aimed at supporting staff to carry out suitable and sufficient manual handling activities within their areas of responsibility and implement any control measures and safe systems of work. As part of this, the post holder will be required to ensure that best practice is being implemented, challenging poor practice and use negotiating and persuasive skills where there is a resistance to change or acceptance to the advice.
Deliver training and support of all employees to enable them to achieve the competencies required to implement safe systems of work in line with the All Wales NHS Manual Handling Passport Scheme.

Person Specification
Qualifications and/or Knowledge
* Hold a Professional registration/qualification e.g. Registered Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Radiographer, Physiotherapist etc. or have significant relevant and applied industry knowledge
* Relevant qualification in Manual Handling Health Ergonomics/Back Care Management, or similar demonstrable experience to post graduate level of skills/knowledge
* A recognised teaching qualification - e.g., City & Guilds 730 Certificate of Education
Experience
* Able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of professional and personal responsibilities and accountability in line with the relevant Code of Professional Conduct
* Proven ability to plan and deliver training sessions that are well evaluated
* Experience of working in a Health and/or Social Care environment
* A working understanding of professional codes of ethics involved in health care
* Be able to demonstrate knowledge of relevant legal influences in the field, particularly those impacting on Health and Safety, Manual Handling and, where relevant, health care centred legislation, and have an understanding of the ergonomics principles involved and of the risk assessment processes required
* Be able to demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development by regular attendance at relevant meetings, updates, conferences and study days - e.g., National Back Exchange meetings and conferences etc., - and other relevant events, in order to keep abreast of developments in the field
* Be able to write policies, strategies and procedures etc., prepare business cases; undertake quality assurance audits and accident investigations, and review investigations and action plans
* Demonstrate leadership skills, with the ability to negotiate and act as an advocate for patients and staff at all levels, and be an effective team member
