Job summary
St Helena Hospice is seeking Health Care Assistants, to work within the night sitting service in the Hospice in the Home team. The shift times are pm -, both full and part time hours will be considered.
Main duties of the job
The key priorities of this role are:
To provide physical,social, emotional and spiritual care in the patients home in agreement withthe patient and family, and under the direction of the Clinical Nurse Manager,SinglePoint.
To provide support tothe registered nurses in responding to palliative and end of life patients inthe last few weeks of life.

Job responsibilities
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Tocare for the person and their family holistically recognising theimportance of physical, emotional, social and spiritual aspects of care.
2. Towork unsupervised in the patients home.
3. Toundertake simple dressings independently and assist the District Nurse/Registered Nurse with more complex dressings.
4. Toreport back to SinglePoint any symptoms, concerns, changes or deterioration ofthe patients condition.
5. Totake advice / instructions from St Helena Medical and Senior Staff on-call whennecessary.
6. Tocommunicate effectively with members of the interdisciplinary team, DistrictNurse, GP, Social Services etc.
7. Tomaintain accurate records of patient care in accordance with St Helena policy.
8. Toensure confidentiality of information at all times, in both written and verbalform.
9. Tohave awareness of the function and use of equipment used in the care of thepalliative/end of life patient at home.
10. Toadhere to St Helena uniform policy
11. Toattend regular staff meetings and professional palliative care updates aswell as other statutory updates.
12. Toattend clinical supervision sessions.
13. Toparticipate in educational programmes carried out within St Helena, as bothprovider and recipient.
14. Towork in other areas if required (IPU / Day Services) as instructed to by theService Manager or member of senior staff.
15. Tovisit a post-bereavement family at home if required (as part of thepost-bereavement care). To provide emotional support and closure if required.
16. Tomentor and direct new Health Care Assistants.
17. Ensure you follow all policies and procedures inrelation to prevention and infection control

18. Full driving licence
19. Willingness to complete the St Helena HCA competency framework within 6 months.
Desirable
20. NVQ Level 2 in care work
