Purpose of the role:
You will play a critical role in creating the specification and architecture of the vehicle and LV assemblies such as wiring harnesses, fuses, low voltage batteries, sensors, etc. You will also be responsible for assisting powertrain engineer(s) to define the electrical architecture of the vehicle and define improvement points moving forward.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities:
1. Work with Head of Whole Vehicle and Head of T+D to refine LV and HV architecture according to the latest legislative, functional safety, cost, and performance standards.
2. Control design and specification of low voltage wiring harness.
3. Guide mechanical design engineers on best practices for routing and securing of harness.
4. Act as the primary point of contact with external suppliers for prototype wire harness manufacturing.
5. Perform all calculations and specifications for LV and HV component sizing, including wiring, fuses, relays, IVTs, etc.
6. Create and maintain schematics in Arcadia and Visio and control the release of updates.
7. Write end-of-line pass/fail requirements and signoff procedures.
8. Support control systems team in software development, testing, analysis, and evaluation.
9. Support test & development teams to address any wiring issues.
10. Use robust management techniques to keep the engineering team aligned with company priorities and timelines.
11. Sign off on all engineering designs and drawings, and get signoff from Head of Whole Vehicle for safety-critical items.
12. Support for vehicle's engineering bill of materials, parts cost, and parts risk assessment.
13. Manage, prioritise and delegate engineering-related corrective actions.
14. Work with programme management and engineering lead to move designs through milestones & gateways in a timely fashion.
15. Develop a strong relationship with the team and maintain a positive attitude as a professional role model.
16. Help manage recruitment efforts through interviewing potential employees, arranging interviews, and offers.
Professional Skills:
1. Demonstrable expertise in LV and HV system design in automotive applications.
2. Demonstrable ability to perform root cause analysis efficiently.
3. Fluent in Visio and Arcadia or similar industry-standard software.
4. Strong understanding of LV and HV component design & construction (wires, connectors, insulation, shielding, etc).
5. Experience with automotive standards and communication protocols.
6. High standards for documentation and organisation.
7. Understanding of first principles and ability to justify designs with hand calculations at a minimum.
8. Discipline with release procedures, drawing and parts tracking.
Personal Attributes:
1. Hands-on experience either in professional or personal environments (personal projects, factory floor, etc).
2. Experience working in small, collaborative environments.
3. Ability to create and maintain their own momentum in the workplace.
4. Evidence of lateral thinking in agile environments.
Qualifications:
1. Knowledge of CAN bus.
2. 5+ years of relevant experience.
