Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with proven expertise in the design, development, and analysis of high-precision mechanical systems to join fast growing engineering firm. This is a Monday to Friday position, onsite, up to £70,000 p.a. This engineering firm have been in business for over 35yrs and have recently won 2 large contracts to build bespoke testing equipment for the automotive industry. The Senior Mechanical Engineer must have a minimum of five years' experience in mechanical design and demonstrate technical proficiency in fabrication, metal components, and ideally, some motion systems. This is a really exciting project for a competent and independent Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - to join a team of enthusiastic, passionate engineers. It is a tight team of 20 superb engineers. Role Overview: The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will take ownership of mechanical design projects, focusing on the creation and optimization of components and assemblies. The role demands a high level of technical expertise in mechanical engineering and ability to be given a specification and run with it, with very little supervision. The Mechanical Design Engineer will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver innovative, high-quality solutions to clients. In addition to the 2 pressing test equipment delivery, they also work in Aerospace, motorsport, renewables and rail. Responsibilities: Develop and refine mechanical designs using SolidWorks, CATIA (or similar CAD package), ensuring compliance with engineering standards and tolerances. Design components and systems involving fabrication, metal materials, and precision equipment. Conduct bolt calculations, stress analysis, and, where applicable, utilize finite element analysis (FEA) to validate designs. Integrate and support motion systems, including servo motors, sensors, and associated control mechanisms. Collaborate with electrical engineers to ensure proper integration of electromechanical components. Prepare detailed technical documentation, including engineering drawings, specifications, and test plans. Support the manufacturing team during prototyping and production phases. Qualifications and Skills: 5 years’ experience in mechanical design engineering, with a focus on high-precision equipment and systems. Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks or similar CAD software. Strong knowledge of fabrication processes, material selection, and metal component design. Familiarity with motion control systems, including servo motors and sensors. Experience with bolt and fastener calculations, stress analysis, and FEA tools. Basic electrical knowledge to facilitate the integration of mechanical and electrical systems. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work within tight tolerances. Preferred Skills: Experience in designing for automated or motion-controlled systems. Understanding of safety and regulatory standards for mechanical and electromechanical systems. The successful Senior Mechanical Engineer will ideally have experience in the automotive and/or industrial automation industry.
