Job Summary: The LEV Technician / HVAC Technician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and servicing of Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) systems and Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems across the university campus. The role ensures compliance with health and safety regulations, optimizes system efficiency, and provides a comfortable and safe environment for students, staff, and faculty. Key Responsibilities: LEV System Responsibilities: Conduct testing, servicing, and maintenance of LEV systems, including fume cupboards, extraction systems, and dust/fume control equipment. Perform thorough inspections and issue reports to ensure compliance with COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations. Identify faults, carry out repairs, and recommend improvements for system efficiency. Assist in the design and installation of new LEV systems and modifications to existing setups. Maintain accurate records of all inspections, maintenance, and repairs.HVAC System Responsibilities: Install, maintain, and repair HVAC systems, including air handling units, ventilation, air conditioning, and heating systems. Diagnose faults and perform corrective actions on HVAC equipment. Conduct routine servicing, filter changes, and system performance checks. Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations related to HVAC operations. Work closely with contractors, engineers, and other facilities staff to ensure the smooth operation of HVAC infrastructure.Qualifications & Experience: Essential: Recognized qualification in HVAC, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent). Experience in maintaining and testing LEV systems, with knowledge of COSHH regulations. Strong understanding of HVAC systems, including installation, maintenance, and fault-finding. Ability to read technical drawings and schematics. Good understanding of health and safety practices, particularly in a laboratory or educational setting. Desirable: BOHS P601 or P602 LEV Testing qualification. F-Gas certification for working with refrigerants. Previous experience in a university or research environment.Skills & Competencies: Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
