Medical Equipment Technician (Entry Level)

The role is integral to the effective management and maintenance of critical medical equipment used across the Trust. The post holder will be responsible for the acceptance testing, repair, calibration, and planned preventative maintenance of a wide range of medical devices, ensuring they remain safe, functional, and compliant with regulatory standards.
The position requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, operational teams, clinicians, and suppliers. Key responsibilities include conducting electrical safety testing, maintaining accurate service records within the asset management database, and supporting the efficient deployment of medical devices across the Trust’s ambulance stations and hubs.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for the testing, maintenance, and repair of a wide range of medical devices, ensuring they meet operational and safety standards. Key duties include:
* Performing planned preventative maintenance, troubleshooting faults, conducting acceptance testing on new equipment, and maintaining accurate records within the Trust’s asset management database.
* Liaising with operational teams, clinicians, and suppliers to support the effective deployment and servicing of medical devices across ambulance stations and hubs.
* Conducting electrical safety testing of medical equipment to ensure compliance with safety standards.
* Assessing, commissioning, and performing acceptance testing on new medical equipment prior to clinical use.
* Maintaining an up-to-date and accurate medical equipment inventory within the Trust’s asset management database.
* Accurately completing and maintaining all technical records related to commissioning, maintenance, and repairs for own work in both paper and electronic formats.
* Conducting routine audits of medical equipment and accessories within the Medical Equipment Workshop.
* Adhering to Trust policies and procedures, maintaining competency in servicing and maintenance activities, including attending training sessions provided by external suppliers.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Professional electronics knowledge acquired through training to diploma-equivalent level (e.g., BTEC, HNC).
* Full UK driving licence.
* A minimum of one year’s driving experience, including experience operating larger vehicles.
Knowledge
* Strong knowledge of electronics, including the ability to analyse and diagnose faults in complex equipment.
* Good understanding of medical equipment and electro-mechanical systems.
* Practical experience in performing test procedures to verify the performance of medical equipment.
Skills
* Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
* Good communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical staff.
* Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain concentration when carrying out repetitive equipment testing and fault finding.
