We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join our dynamic team, a welcoming and inclusive primary school located in Hindley. As a SEND TA, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with special educational needs and disabilities, ensuring they access the curriculum and achieve their full potential. This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with students who require additional support in a nurturing educational environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide tailored support to students with SEND, both in and outside the classroom, in a variety of subjects and activities.
2. Foster a positive and supportive learning environment by using differentiated teaching strategies to meet individual learning needs.
3. Help with personal care, mobility, and other physical needs where necessary, following the school’s safeguarding procedures.
4. Support students during group work, one-on-one sessions, and extracurricular activities.
5. Collaborate with class teachers, SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), and other staff to monitor and track the progress of students.
6. Assist with the preparation and modification of learning resources and activities.
7. Contribute to the development of strategies to support students’ social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
8. Support the inclusion of students in school activities, helping them to integrate socially and academically.
9. Ensure students' safety and well-being at all times, following safeguarding protocols.
10. Maintain clear and accurate records of students' progress, including observations and feedback.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
1. Previous experience working with children, preferably in a SEND role (this can be voluntary work).
2. A strong understanding of SEND, including autism, dyslexia, ADHD, and physical disabilities.
3. Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) is desirable.
4. Knowledge of child development and the ability to adapt teaching methods to suit individual needs.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and parents.
6. Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children with additional needs.
7. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
8. A proactive approach to problem-solving and creativity in supporting students’ learning.
9. A commitment to continuous professional development.
10. A current DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check or willingness to undergo one.
Desirable:
1. Experience in supporting students with specific conditions such as autism, physical disabilities, or learning difficulties.
2. Knowledge of using assistive technology to support learning.
3. First Aid training or a willingness to undertake relevant courses.
