LSA – Learning Support Assistant
A Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) with a Music and Humanities Specialism would have additional responsibilities and skills tailored to supporting teaching and learning in those specific subject areas. Below is a job description that incorporates the music and humanities focus. To provide high-quality support to the delivery of music and humanities (e.g., History, Geography, Religious Studies, or Social Studies) education, enhancing the learning experiences of students across key stages. The HLTA will take on a higher level of responsibility, supporting teachers with the planning, delivery, and assessment of lessons, and providing specialist assistance for students with diverse educational needs.
The ideal LSA will have experience working with children who have a variety of complex needs, requiring support to help them throughout their learning and development. Learning Support Assistants are vitally important in engaging with students on a 1:1 and small group basis, helping them to grow in confidence and perform to the best of their ability. This position would be suitable for an individual who enjoys helping students achieve their full potential, the role can be challenging but nonetheless is rewarding.
As an LSA you will have a varied but rewarding role within the School and your duties will include:
* Working with children in small groups to provide further support to them, enabling them to meet their personal targets
* Liaising with other teaching staff, parents and outside professionals
* Using visual cues to encourage speech and develop understanding
* Providing 1:1 support to children with ASD, EBD, MLD, PMLD
* Observing and providing feedback on individual student’s progress
* Implementing School polices on Safeguarding, Health and Safety, Behaviour
* Assisting the Class teacher with managing behaviour, adjusting and implementing lesson plans
The ideal candidate should have the following:
* Current, valid DBS (update service)
* Experience working with SEN students
* Strong communication skills
* Ability to use PECs, Makaton
* Knowledge of safeguarding
