Our client is a leading Tier 1 Contractor renowned for delivering high-quality commercial projects across the North East. With an expanding portfolio, they are seeking an experienced Design Manager to join their team. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a pivotal role in managing the design process from inception to completion on large-scale commercial developments.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design Management: Lead the design process for commercial construction projects, ensuring alignment with project goals, budgets, and timelines.
2. Coordination: Liaise between the design team, project managers, and construction teams to facilitate smooth communication and resolve design-related issues.
3. Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with architects, consultants, subcontractors, and clients to ensure that design solutions meet the project's objectives and client expectations.
4. Compliance: Ensure designs comply with relevant building regulations, planning permissions, and company standards.
5. Risk Management: Identify and mitigate design risks and provide solutions to potential issues that may arise during the design and construction phases.
6. Document Control: Oversee and manage the production, review, and approval of all design documentation, ensuring that the latest revisions are used on site.
7. Value Engineering: Propose and implement cost-effective design solutions while maintaining the highest quality standards.
8. Team Leadership: Manage and mentor junior design staff, providing guidance and support to ensure their professional growth.
9. Project Reporting: Provide regular updates on design progress to the senior management team, ensuring transparency and accountability throughout the design process.
Skills and Experience:
10. Proven experience as a Design Manager, ideally within a Tier 1 Contractor or a Main Contracting environment.
11. Experience in commercial construction projects, including office buildings, retail developments, and industrial units is ideal.
12. Strong understanding of construction processes, design management procedures, and building regulations.
13. Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams.
14. Strong problem-solving abilities with a focus on delivering solutions that meet project requirements.
15. Proficiency in design software and tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and other industry-standard programs.
16. Relevant qualifications in architecture, engineering, or a related construction discipline.
