STRUCTURAL ENGINEER - FABRICATION

What you will be doing:
An opportunity has arisen for a Structural Engineer to join the team within Fabrications, a Galliford Try business. To support the growth of the fabrication business, the role has been identified to work as part of the GT Fabs design team to plan and conduct design calculations, material selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria.
* Provide design input at the outline, optioneering and detailed design stage of the project.
* Perform structural design and analysis calculations using governing codes and standards, engineering formulas, skills, GT Fabs standard designs and experience.
* Commercial awareness and focus on efficient, cost effective design.
* Review Structural plans, designs, layouts and loading criteria.
* Consult with the Project Management team as to the ‘constructability’ of the steelwork structures.
* Support by completing ‘outline sectioning calculations’ for the engineering proposals team.
* Support the ongoing development of the GT Fabs business by reviewing new technologies, new ways of working and software packages.
* Occasional site visits for field measurements and client meetings.
* Use Tekla and AutoCAD to develop layout, drawings, and designs that meet expectations and specifications.
* Review and interpret structural plans from the contractor/client.
* Manage and maintain file structure for assigned projects.
* Review GT Fabs designs against client specifications, Eurocodes and British Standards.
* Apply 2D and 3D CAD skills in the creation, conveying or extraction of information related to the project work.
* Provide technical clarification to proposals, engineers, workshop and site personnel.
Experience and Qualifications:
* Knowledge in basic drafting standards and principles.
* Ability to prioritise a varied workload and demonstrate good time management to comply with deadlines.
* The ability to pay close attention to detail, precision, and accuracy.
* Able to work in a busy environment under pressure.
* Excellent communication skills (email/phone/face to face).
* Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, and 0-2 years of experience with knowledge in civil and/or structural engineering, obtainable usually through a combination of experience and continuing education.
* StaadPro or equivalent finite element analysis software.
* Working knowledge of AutoCAD or other drafting software.
