A Vacancy at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.
This post is equivalent to a specialist registrar in Cardiology but is ideally suited to an experienced cardiology applicant e.g. post-CCST or CESR, who isseeking high volumes of advanced echo procedures with a view to achieving accreditations in Stress and TOE thus paving the path to securing an echo consultant post at the end of the fellowship. This post has been recognised by PMETB and counts towards CCT training. The 12 month fellowship is suitable if echocardiography is the only modality required but if CT or cMR training is also desired, the post can be extended to 24 months. This would need to be negotiated with our colleagues in the cross-sectional imaging department before starting the fellowship but many of our previous fellowships have incorporated this additional training.
The purpose of this post is to offer comprehensive training in echocardiography with particular emphasis on stress-echocardiography and 3D TOE.Day to day duties will include performing stress lists, TOE lists, TTE lists, cardiology clinics and attendance at MDTs. The fellow will be expected to helpsupervise and support junior doctors, physiologists and specialist nurses. The trainee will be supervised by Dr Anita Macnab and will be exclusively based at Wythenshawe Hospital. There will be a commitment to provide in-patient care for cardiology patients under the imaging consultants. The general on-call for cardiology middle grades is a 1 in 13 full shift rota with the other Fellows and the Deanery SpRs in the department. On-call commitments will include supporting the primary PCI service and looking after cardiology in-patients, triaging and managing referrals and inter-hospital transfers. Even though there is always a consultant interventionalist on-call, all middle grades at Wythenshawe need to be competent in basic cath lab invasive procedures such as left heart catheterisation, pericardiocentesis and temporary pacing.
