Our Renewable Energy Business Unit currently has an opening for a Laboratory Technician on a permanent basis. This role will be based in Edenderry Power. The successful candidate will be responsible for reporting to the Environmental Health and Safety Officer. It is the primary responsibility of the Laboratory Technician to carry out daily duties in accordance with the provisions of the ISO 17025 Standard. This includes carrying out audits as required by the schedule and requested by management, assisting in the analysis & assessment of fuel quality on the plant to support production/operations, and helping to coordinate the plant's Environmental Management System.
The main duties and responsibilities of the role will include the following:
1. Carry out fuel analysis to ensure it meets commercial and technical needs of the Powergen Division and operates to the standard outlined in the laboratory quality manual and the ISO 17025 Standard.
2. Carry out water analysis to help coordinate the plant's Environmental Management System.
3. Participate and assist with Environmental, Health & Safety activities including Risk assessment and Auditing.
4. Assist in carrying out internal quality and laboratory audits to verify that the operation of the Business Management System and activities of the laboratory comply with relevant ISO Standards including 17025 Standard.
5. Control of water and steam chemistry on the plant and effluent to ensure compliance with all relevant environmental & legislative responsibilities.
6. Contribute to the documentation and development of the plant’s control and Business Management Systems, ensuring compliance with the requirements of various accreditations and relevant authorities.
7. Liaise with the Operations Manager regarding all aspects of process water sampling, testing, and quality.
8. Maintain interfaces with the ANUA, other interested parties, NSAI, INAB, the Fuel Suppliers, laboratory suppliers, and contractors as necessary.
9. Cooperate fully with all provisions taken by the company for ensuring Health and Safety and Welfare of co-employees and members of the public using the premises.
10. Proactively participate in the Performance Management process to ensure delivery of own, and the wider team’s, objectives.
The Person:
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications, skills, knowledge, and attributes:
1. Appropriate technical qualifications (C&G, HNC, HND engineering/chemistry), with particular emphasis on fuel & chemical analysis, including knowledge of the ISO 17025 Standard.
2. Minimum of 1 year’s experience would be an advantage.
3. Experience in a fuel laboratory in an Accredited environment – EPA Licensing an advantage.
4. Experience in Fuel Analysis, Steam Plant water Analysis, Effluent Analysis – Auditing Training & Experience.
5. Knowledge of the Basics of Health & Safety, Safepass.
