LEAD ENGINEER Location: Dunstable Site Salary: £50,000 per annum We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Engineer to join our team, reporting directly to Assistant Engineering Manager. In this key leadership role, you will take charge of overseeing engineering projects, guiding and upskilling a talented team of engineers, and ensuring successful execution of technical solutions on shopfloor. Key areas of responsibility: To routinely assess the Safety of the machinery and report any defects that need attention to the Engineering Manager. To make safe and if necessary, prohibit the use of any machine that is liable to cause injury to any employee or visitor to the site. Adherence to all scheduled PPM tasks. To communicate all areas of concern with regard to the Plant, buildings, and Machinery to the Assistant Engineering Manager. Completion of shift reporting as prescribed. Completion of weigh scale records and calibration schedules with feedback to the Production Controller where applicable. Trouble shooting and resolve of problem in conjunction with the Team Leaders / Print Co-ordinator where necessary. Routine assistance to production during problems or job changes. Mechanical repairs. Electrical Repairs. Stock checks and requests for parts where necessary. Routine Plant Checks, Chillers / Compressors / Vacuum systems. Regular checking of safety protection systems – Interlocks etc. Problem solving in conjunction with the Engineering Manager and Assistant Engineering Manager on problems of a more involved nature. Improvement project work. Company Safety Improvement project work. Carrying out any other appropriate instructions/tasks necessary to the success of the business as determined by the Engineering Manager. The person: An individual with an analytical and logical approach to problem solving, based on root cause analysis methods (Fishbone, 5Why). Someone who has high attention to detail. A can-do attitude, able to overcome obstacles with a team approach. Organisational and planning skills to manage your time and to meet deadlines and objectives. Interpersonal skills that enable you to work with people at all levels and to motivate others. Knowledge, training, and experience required: Minimum of NVQ Level 3 qualification in engineering discipline. Must meet any regulatory requirements of the relevant role. Fully conversant & capable of carrying out work related to Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics Engineering. Working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Experience in using workshop equipment and tools, e.g., mitre saw, pillar drill and hand tools. Strong knowledge base around the maintenance of highly extrusion processing machinery (desirable but not essential). Experience gained from working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
