Deputy Ward Manager/Charge Nurse - Bespoke Therapeutic Placement Unit
We are recruiting for a Deputy Ward Manager/Charge Nurse for a hospital that provides inpatient mental health services for young people and adults. The focus of the service is to help people to live their best life in a safe and supportive environment. Bespoke Therapeutic Placement (BTP) provides a single person service for patients with increased or complex needs.
The role of the Deputy Ward Manager is to provide senior nursing leadership to the ward nursing team in support of the Ward Manager. They will have clinical experience and leadership that provides expertise and confidence to the nursing team and ward overall. They will have defined delegated responsibilities from the Ward Manager.
Salary: Up to £43,313 DOE
Type: Permanent - Full Time
Responsibilities:
1. Work as Senior Nurse in a Ward or equivalent area ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, their families, and visitors.
2. Apply relevant policies and statutory requirements within the ward and hospital framework of governance and communicate requirements to the wider team.
3. Ensure that risk is assessed and managed across the immediate and wider working environment and that statutory requirements are met.
4. Respect and apply the requirements of diversity and inclusion, promoting and role modeling these across the team.
5. Identify deficits in skill mix and safe staffing levels and act to address these.
6. Supervise a defined group of team members and contribute to their overall CPD, mandatory training, and appraisal process recognizing the skills required across the team.
7. Act as a role model to promote a culture of learning development, inquiry, and a team vision.
8. Actively support Junior Staff and student nurses on placement on the ward.
9. Implement, monitor, and evaluate therapeutic interventions within an overall care programme, enabling people with mental health and/or learning disability needs to develop coping strategies.
10. Actively support and contribute to effective Multi-Disciplinary Working.
11. Engage in collaborative problem solving, supporting and encouraging clients to take ownership of issues, identify problems, and develop solutions based on their own needs and preferences.
12. Contribute to the process of collaboratively assessing and acting on risks of harm, danger, and abuse.
13. Be named nurse for a small group of patients and Associate nurse when required when on duty, and be a regular shift leader.
14. Provide Clinical Supervision to a group of defined nursing staff.
15. Undertake Lead roles for the ward, as agreed with the Ward manager.
16. Deputise for the Ward manager as and when required.
17. Adhere to all National, Company, and local standards, policies, and procedures.
18. Participate in recruitment and retention of staff on the ward and hospital when required.
Knowledge/Education/Skill/Experience:
1. Active Registration with the Nursing Midwifery Council, meeting the requirements of Revalidation.
2. Trained Assessor/Supervisor.
3. Evidence of Continued Professional Development and intent to maintain and develop Continued Professional Development and leadership.
4. At least 18 Months – 2 years’ experience post-registration.
5. Demonstrable expertise within a clinical speciality.
6. The post-holder will be required to work a regular shift pattern over a 7 day period.
