Job overview
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated Head of Year to work as part of our pastoral team. Working closely with other Heads of Year and the safeguarding team, you will support our students day to day, ensuring that all students make exceptional progress by displaying strong attitudes to learning and the highest levels of behaviour.
You will develop a distinct culture and year-group ethos which foster a student’s sense of pride and loyalty to their year group. You will take ownership and provide leadership to your year group and strive to ensure students meet the high standards of the academy, intervening quickly when this does not happen.
To be successful, you will be able to demonstrate the skills which will enable you to monitor progress, attitude, attendance and conduct across the curriculum and the academy. You will support students in meeting their targets and liaise with teachers, parents, the SENDCO, EWO, social/health agencies and other professionals, including educational psychologists and alternative provisions as necessary, to ensure all students in your year group are able to fulfil their potential and be successful.
This is a student-facing role; you will be a key point of contact for our students and must be able to establish effective working relationships with our students and their families, utilising your excellent all-round communication skills to do so.
This is either a full-time support role for 37 hours per week, 39.2 weeks or a teaching role with a TLR 2.5 for 32.5 hours per week, full year.
About Us
Following on from 10 years as a specialist Technology College, de Ferrers became an Academy in January 2011. It has grown into a large, split-site, co-educational institution catering for the full range of students from ages 11 to 18. In 2015, de Ferrers became the first school of Affinity Learning Partnership (a Multi Academy Trust).
Excellent funding has allowed the Academy to enhance resources and equipment and widely promote the use of new technologies. There are digital projectors and flat-screen TVs in all curriculum areas, with over 500 computers and laptops across all sites.
From October 2012, the Academy became the first school in Staffordshire to provide all sixth form students with access to a personal one-to-one iPad for use in lessons and at home. Currently, all students in Years 9 to 13 (Trent and Sixth Form Campuses) have their own iPad, as well as all teaching staff and most support staff.
At The de Ferrers Academy, we believe in working hard, being kind and choosing wisely. We are privileged to work in a community where we have a positive impact on children’s lives and futures every day.
