Main duties of the job
Our Estates team is currently recruiting an Estates Team Leader (Electrical) to work within our wider estate team. You will be working as part of a team, of Maintenance staff and technicians at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital site. You will be assisting the Estates Manager by effectively leading and supervising the Electrical trade staff in the installation, maintenance and repair of physical assets (plant, equipment and services).
The ideal candidate will have an electrical background and be able to carry out trade related Authorised Persons (AP) roles and duties with minimum supervision. The main responsibilities of the role are to ensure all workshop staff are utilised effectively to organise and carry out day-to-day breakdowns, Planned Preventative Maintenance, diagnose and repair technically advanced faults, along with new work as required. The Maintenance Team Leader will monitor, advise, review, and provide feedback to the trade staff and assist in carrying out the objectives of the Estates and Facilities Department.
The post is for a 37.5 hour week Monday - Friday. The post holder will be expected to participate in the on-call rota service for out-of-hours emergency calls, with some weekend and evening work whilst on call.

Job responsibilities
1. Supervision of the Electrical trade staff
2. Issuing maintenance jobs to all trades via the MICAD helpdesk
3. To complete all mandatory training as required
4. Supervision of non-Electrical trade staff
5. Cover the other trades Team Leader in times of absence
6. Liaison and communication with other departments regarding maintenance activities
7. To assist and give guidance to trade staff and contractors where necessary
8. Operate relevant permit to work systems
9. Assist in carrying out annual appraisals of maintenance staff
10. Implement Trust and local policies and propose changes to departmental practices where appropriate
11. To assist in the development and implementation of planned preventative maintenance activities
12. Monitoring of timesheets including sickness and holidays
13. Check and sign timesheets
14. Attend various meetings as and when required
15. To assist in the recruitment of trade staff
16. Source and purchase materials, spare and replacement parts, tools and equipment as required keeping within budgeted limits
17. Obtain quotations from contractors, place orders and supervise work ensuring best value for money and quality of work
18. Ensuring acceptable standards of productivity and work quality
19. To observe Statutory Health and Safety and other relevant requirements for a safe working environment, and to carry out Health and Safety Risk Assessments, assist with method statements and permits as appropriate to a particular trade
20. To be prepared to supervise work that may need to be carried out in periods that are outside of normal working hours. This may require you to work evenings, nights or weekends in addition to, or as an alternative to your standard working hours. Flexibility is therefore an essential requirement of the position
21. To undertake continued professional development (CPD) in the form of training as required
22. To be prepared to respond to emergency work outside normal working hours, and to be included on the On Call rota
23. To undertake any other appropriate duties as requested

Person Specification
Qualifications
* HNC/D, NVQ level 4, C&G or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline
* Time served tradesperson
Experience
* Proven experience in a service/maintenance role
* Demonstrable and proven experience in a supervisory position
Knowledge
* Good knowledge of Health & Safety procedures
* In-depth working knowledge of building services engineering
* Knowledge of Building Management Systems
* Knowledge of steam raising plant - particularly steam generators
