About the role: This is an exciting opportunity to join the award-winning Sustainable Transport Team as a Principal Low Emission Transport Officer to lead on a range of sustainable transport initiatives and encourage and enable a modal shift in the borough. Waltham Forest is a leader in the sustainable transport field and was recently awarded over £4.5m, in partnership with Newham and Redbridge, to increase and diversify Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across the east London area through the Department for Transport Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund. Alongside this, the role will also oversee the delivery of cycle training and associated active travel services in the borough including our fleet of community cycles, All Ability Cycling Clubs, and cycle maintenance provision. >> Click here to download the Role Profile Key Responsibilities: The role involves the following core responsibilities: Implementation of the borough’s Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Point Strategy, including procurement of EV charging point operators, site identification, contract management and utilisation monitoring and evaluation. Lead on the Council’s portfolio of cycling-based initiatives and events in Waltham Forest, including but not limited to; Dr Bikes, cycle training, bike maintenance courses, All Ability Cycle Club, ‘Try Before You Bike’ and cycle share schemes. Oversee the Community Cycle Loan scheme including promotion of the service, booking loans of cycles to residents, carrying out cycle inductions, and managing the maintenance of the fleet. Lead on the Council’s relationship with Car Club providers to manage existing schemes and develop future car share initiatives. Lead on the organisation and running of community-based low emission transport projects and events. The role also involves the line management of a Sustainable Transport Project Officer and supervisory responsibility of a LEVI Procurement Specialist. Qualifications and Requirements: Degree or equivalent or vocational qualification in relevant subject or area Demonstrable interest and knowledge of low emission transport modes including cycling, walking, Electric Vehicles and Car Clubs. Understanding of techniques to achieve behaviour change. Experience of having worked in a fast paced, customer focused environment. Excellent knowledge and application of IT systems and software packages. Relevant legislative knowledge of low emission transport modes. Ability to work flexibly, balancing competing priorities and meeting deadlines whilst understanding the needs, timescales and deadlines of others. Ability to deal diplomatically and confidentially with a wider range of stakeholders internally and externally.
