An exciting 12-month fixed term/secondment opportunity has arisen for an interim deteriorating patient nurse who should be enthusiastic and motivated to drive improvement in the care of deteriorating patients at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The deteriorating patient nurse will use their clinical knowledge and experience to contribute to trust wide improvement in the recognition, escalation and treatment of deteriorating patients. Working closely with members of the Deteriorating Patient Steering Group, clinical educators
and clinical teams, the deteriorating patient nurse will influence positive change and strive to improve patient care.
Delivering education and sharing learning from experience is a key part of the role which empowers others to provide the best possible standard of patient care. Carrying out audit and reviewing data is also essential in the monitoring of trust wide performance and identifying areas of clinical practice where further improvement would be of benefit.

Main duties of the job
1. You will work closely with members of the Deteriorating Patient Steering Group, clinical educators and clinical teams.
2. To deliver on the workplan of the Deteriorating Patient Committee (DPC) in relation to the care of deteriorating patients within the Trust.
3. To lead and respond to implementation and evaluation of the Trust’s fundamentals of care program regarding deteriorating patients
4. To create an infrastructure to support staff within the trust to identify deteriorating patients and deliver the Trust’s priority actions maintaining a culture of interprofessional delivery.
5. Development of policy and procedures to support the identification and delivery of the Trust’s fundamentals of care program regarding deteriorating patients.
6. To provide positive working relationship with members of the multi-professional team throughout the Trust and with external agencies.
7. To support the Healthcare Governance Team in providing feedback on the Trust’s performance with regards to the identification and treatment of deteriorating patients.
8. To empower and motivate other team members to maximise and develop their skills and knowledge within this area.
9. Support the design and adoption of data collection and reporting systems related to deteriorating patients in different contexts around the Trust

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of a maximum of twelve months due to maternity leave of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and statutory maternity provisions.
Please also note any secondment must first be agreed with your current line manager.
