Job summary We are looking for an enthusiastic doctor to join our existing group of doctors. You will be on our rolling on-call rota based at the Royal Sussex County Hospital which is the Tertiary Hub for Vascular Services across the whole of Sussex. You will have equal access to training opportunities in clinics, theatres, and wards. Post-holders will need to be able to learn and be involved in all aspects of the departments work. You will be expected to proactively contribute to the department's ongoing research activities which are regionally renowned. The department will support all attempts to be involved or initiate research projects to completion and publication Main duties of the job The Royal Sussex County Hospital is the Hub of a 'Spoke and Hub' vascular network covering 1.8million people over East Sussex, West Sussex and Brighton and Hove. It is the designated Major Trauma Centre, and has tertiary services for cardiology, nephrology, neurosurgery, stroke, and interventional radiology. The Vascular Department provides 24/7 cover with 11 consultants, 10 registrars and 8 core trainees/fellows alongside a full 24/7 IR service. Ther entire range of vascular and endovascular procedures including complex thoracic and abdominal aortic cases alongside major arterial and renal access surgery take place at the hub in Brighton. There are 10 registrars based at RSCH on a non-resident overnight rota, with resident core trainees and fellows taking part in an 8 person resident shift rota. The emphasis is on team-working (rather than firm-based), with daily ward rounds and efficient use of theatre time so that urgent cases are dealt with on the next available list regardless of consultant ownership. There is a dedicated vascular theatre and team with two main operating theatres; one for open surgery; a hybrid suite for dual vascular and IR cases. There is a close working relationship between the vascular surgeons, vascular anaesthetists, and interventional radiologists with excellent opportunities for training in endovascular operations.
