Role Summary:
You will be part of the team working on product design and development, developing concepts in 3D, implementing changes from collaborative design reviews and generating the drawings to support successful release into production. You will be required to work with the electrical design engineers to ensure that harness routing is imbedded into your design from the concept. You will apply your design knowledge to ensure that components are technically suitable for the application, your practical experience to ensure they provide a reliable solution and work with purchasing to ensure we have a cost-effective design.
To enable controlled build of the first off prototypes, you will support your designs post release, working with the fabrications and assembly teams. During the build phase you will work closely with the technicians to communicate the design intent, resolve issues, capture improvements and take ownership of the final build quality. Post completion of the prototype and subsequent testing, working collaboratively with the manufacturing engineers, you will ensure all drawings are updated so that the design transfers to serial production without issues.
This role will be office and workshop based. You will need to be professional, technically competent and able to work in a multi-disciplined team. As part of the prototype build and development, and so that you get a first-hand knowledge of issues, you will be expected to assist with the physical build as and when required.
Areas of Responsibility
Design & Development:
* Generating 3d models, part drawings & assembly drawings using Solidworks to support successful release into production.
* Supported by the senior design engineers, you will be required to take designs from concept, through prototype build & on to serial production.
* Working with the electrical design engineers to ensure that harness routing, support and access is incorporated into the design at an early stage and achieves the requirements for manufacturing and service.
* As part of the new product introduction process and continuous improvement initiatives, you will work hands on with the technicians to ensure the designs are correctly implemented and act on feedback to ensure the successful launch into production and achieve the cost and output targets required.
Testing & Validation:
* Support production capability trails and develop fixtures to enable consistent production
* Support prototype testing and validation to verify performance, safety & compliance with standards
Documentation & Compliance:
* Prepare and support the creation of comprehensive design documentation, including diagrams, technical reports, and manuals.
* Ensure designs comply with industry standards, regulations, and internal policies, including safety and quality standards (e.g., UL, CE, ECE)
Collaboration & Communication:
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of all systems.
* Interface with suppliers and contractors to specify and source materials and components.
Continuous improvements
* Participate in design reviews and contribute to process improvements to enhance product quality, reduce costs, and increase efficiency.
* Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to maintain cutting-edge design capabilities
