A fantastic opportunity has arisen for Mental Health or Learning Disability nurses to join the 24hr healthcare team at HMP Birmingham. We are an NHS service provider working alongside various partnership agencies.
We are expanding services with focused pathways on Secondary mental health, Trauma, Personality Disorder, Dementia care, and Learning Disability & Autism.
A Band 5 post is now available at HMP Birmingham, which is an Adult Category B prison with diverse nursing needs.
This role offers a unique experience, requiring a diverse mixed nursing skills background and attracting nurses from various professional specialist areas.
Our service has structured Mental Health teams in operation. We have a nursing team that supports the assessment of prisoners within a 24hr healthcare environment, with a 15-bedded assessment service and a Community Mental Health Team that mirrors services experienced within the wider community.
We seek to employ nurses who understand the needs of the prisoner/offender population and can bring innovation and change to our services. We view these services as a genuine specialism and offer the opportunity to be part of it.
Main Duties of the Job
Under the supervision of the Deputy Ward Managers, Clinical Team Manager, and Service Manager, the post holder will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for those experiencing mental health and learning disability & neurodiversity. The post holder will have a working knowledge of local and national policies and legislation governing current service provision. Additionally, the post holder will identify and contribute to the training needs of others and promote issues of equality, diversity, and rights in accordance with good practice legislation. Effective communication pathways must exist, and the post holder will manage themselves, the team, and the clinical area in the absence of the person in charge.
All staff are required to understand the broad principles of the recovery approach and incorporate them to provide holistic services that support people's recovery, promoting social inclusion, self-management, personal autonomy, and independence.
The role also involves working in partnership with HMPPS prison staff to support the operation of the healthcare environment.

Person Specification
Registered RMN/RNLD
* Qualification for Mental Health or Learning Disability nursing
* NMC registration or pending if a student
* Previous experience working in a secure setting, such as PICU or MSU

Salary: £29,970 to £36,483 per annum, pro rata
