Senior Gardener
Based at our Inch Park Depot
The salary package is enhanced by a minimum of 27 days leave per year rising to a maximum of 35 days per year depending on continuous service, plus 6 public holidays. In addition, there are generous employer pension contributions and numerous employee benefits.
Responsibilities:
1. A member of a gardening team undertaking horticultural, landscaping, and grounds maintenance tasks.
2. Contributes expertise to the development of initiatives, plans, and policies.
3. Supports the development of team-working within the gardening squad.
4. Assists in training and instruction of gardening staff as required by the Service.
5. Deputises for other supervisors as required by the Service.
6. Identifies and initiates opportunities for operational and horticultural improvement within the duties of the position.
7. Assists in the preparation and implementation of site management proposals for parks, gardens, and greenspaces, including cemeteries, schools, and other Council properties.
8. Where appropriate, assist in the design and preparation of training courses and assessments which enhance and develop horticultural skills.
9. Assists in the delivery of Council policies and service improvement initiatives and provides appropriate performance information.
10. Implements operations to deliver horticultural standards.
11. Contributes to the development and implementation of Parks Quality Assessments, Green Flag Award applications, Park Improvement Plans, and site management plans.
12. Investigates customer service requests/enquiries and takes appropriate action.
13. Uses hand-held technology to record work, receive instructions, and report back on actions or problems identified.
14. Assists in the preparation, review, and updating of operational risk assessments.
15. Operates a range of vehicles, machinery, and equipment.
Qualifications:
Knowledge and skills in horticulture and parks and grounds maintenance are required, along with a relevant qualification to SVQ 2 level or equivalent.
Although post holders are not directly responsible for day-to-day supervision of staff, they are expected to support, direct, and, when appropriate, supervise new starts, apprentices, students, and other shadow workers. They are expected to promote effective team working at all times.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
