NUPAS are recruiting for a Medical Director. This is apermanent position. The Medical Director is a member of the senior management team and is expected to contribute to the overall strategic direction of thecompany. The post-holder will ensure the highest standards of care & qualityto our patients through clinical leadership.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide clinical advice and informationto the senior management team and advise and assist the CEO in the execution oftheir responsibilities for the management of the Organisation in relation toclinical matters.
The Medical Director will become the nominated ResponsibleOfficer for all Independent Medical Practitioners undertaking work on behalf of thecompany who are connected to NUPAS.
The Medical Director is the accountable officer for thedemonstration of adequate assurance on quality and clinical governance for servicesprovided by the company.
The post holder will also ensure that systems are in place forthe development of quality and the identification and minimisation of risk where standardsfall below that required in conjunction with the Clinical Director and the Head ofNursing.

Job responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Contribute to the corporate management of the company byworking with the Executive team, SLT and Staff to shape and support thedevelopment of the companys strategic direction through the development ofclinical pathways and policies as well as managing performance and minimisingthe risk to achieving the strategic direction.
Contribute to the activities of the Organisation in thedelivery of high quality care to all patients.
Ensure the Organisation receives advice on all clinicalmatters relevant to the effective and efficient delivery of patient services.
To be consulted and involved in the purchase of new medicalequipment.
Ensure that there are systems and processes in place foreffective management, appraisal and revalidation in conjunction with the Headof HR.
Ensure that robust systems are in place for reportingconcerns involving a doctors conduct and performance.
Ensure, in conjunction with the Head of HR and CEO thatconcerns about conduct and capability of clinicians are managed in accordancewith national and Organisational procedures.
Ensure, in conjunction with the Head of HR, that there isadequate and appropriate assurance provided to the Board regarding thecontinuing fitness to practice of all medical staff with Practicing Privilegeswithin NUPAS.
Provide professional advice to the Organisation in respectof complaints and disciplinary procedures for Independent Medical Practitionersand Medical Employees.
In conjunction with the Head of HR lead the Doctors annualappraisal process ensuring the appropriate development and quality assurance ofthe process. This will include ensuringall medical staff are appropriately revalidated and that the Organisationobtains evidence of this.
The Medical Director is the lead for clinical governance inconjunction with the Clinical Director and Head of Nursing and hasresponsibility and accountability for all quality and clinical governanceissues. This will include ensuring thateffective systems are in place to maintain the highest standards of clinicalgovernance and full compliance with the provisions of the Care QualityCommission essential standards to ensure patient safety.
Develop, in conjunction with the Clinical Director,effective organisational arrangements that enables the Organisation to meet itsstrategic aims within a framework of strong, effective governance.
In conjunction with the Head of Quality and Safety, ensurethat appropriate systems, structures, performance management arrangements andtraining are in place to promote sound governance including awareness ofclinical governance, learning from incidents and including input into customerservice/complaints where relevant.
Monitor clinical performance through an appropriate range ofclinical indicators, implementation of recommendations from root causeanalyses, serious untoward incidents/accidents and external reviews.
Improve whole system clinical governance to ensure thateffective clinical governance is in place across the whole patient journey.
In conjunction with the Clinical Director, Head of PatientQuality & Safety and Head of Nursing and ensure that incidents areinvestigated appropriately on behalf of the CEO and that incident reportingsystems are managed effectively.
Work with the Organisation to develop, implement and monitorthe effectiveness of a strategic approach to clinical engagement. This includesthe ongoing development of the Medical Consultative Committee and ensuring theagenda reflects all matters relating to clinical governance.
In conjunction with the Head of Nursing, Clinical Directorand Head of Quality & Safety develop an approach to clinical riskmanagement fostering a culture of openness and transparency ensuring robustsystems are in place to identify, assess and minimise the exposure of thecompany to clinical risk.
Provide professional advice across a broad range of issueswithin the Organisation.
Provide professional management and guidance to allindependent medical practitioners.
Person Specification
Experience
* Substantial clinical experience at consultant level or equivalent.
* Experience in medical management.
* Good reputation as a clinician and clinical leader with a proven track record of producing high quality results in the management and leadership of clinical services.
* Experience of building organisational capabilities.
* Experience of managing clinical governance.
* Previous Medical Director experience.
* Previous experience working within Abortion Services.
* Previous experience working within a Sexual Health Service.
Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration.
* Medical Qualification and appropriate Royal College membership or Fellowship.
* Postgraduate Medical Qualification.
* Evidence of continuous learning and professional development
* Unblemished registration with the GMC.
* Management Qualification.
* Post Graduate Qualification in Clinical Governance.
