Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast-growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery.
ROLE SUMMARY
The Module Leader will be responsible for developing the Seating project in collaboration with the Customer Design/Styling team. This includes covering all feasibilities for the given SOR / RFQ requirements. The scope of work encompasses the content of Seating commodities as outlined in the brief – Initial Proposal/Intent document.
The design convergence ensures that the service is delivered with the right quality, meeting customer expectations. This role is highly demanding, requiring the Module Leader to manage and lead technical delivery while ensuring efficient stakeholder management.
Additionally, the Module Leader is responsible for robustly deploying all technical delivery processes, including project plans, issue tracking/resolution mechanisms, stakeholder management, design resource efficiency, project task forecasting, weekly metrics reporting, quality metrics, and project roadblock reporting.
The role requires being onsite at the customer's location 3 days a week.
AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY
Planning:
1. Understand issues and delegate them to the appropriate domain engineers or Module Leader.
2. Develop a proactive working plan for each issue with the respective engineer.
3. Use individual plans to create and maintain an overall project plan.
4. Identify project risks and implement mitigation actions.
5. Forecast and adapt to changes through efficient planning.
Execution:
6. Assist the team in breaking down issues into sub-tasks and monitor progress using Pulse, JIRA, or other relevant project management tools.
7. Ensure robust Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and logical presentation of facts for issues.
8. Develop an action plan prior to customer meetings.
9. Plan and lead the team in technical discussions.
10. Manage stakeholders by identifying who needs to respond, ensuring responses are received, and escalating if necessay.
11. Adhere to schedules for planned actions.
12. Resolve customer issues and escalations on priority, within the expected Service Level Agreement (SLA).
13. Identify timing and cost risks, and help engineers discuss them in review meetings to reach agreements. Pro-actively highlight / red flag tasks which might affect the delivery schedule to customer.
14. Track actual efforts versus overall project agreed efforts to ensure efficient use of design resources.
15. Document lessons learned to inform customer standards.
16. Ensure the team completes closure actions in required customer systems.
17. Meet or exceed delivery throughput commitments, identifying and addressing roadblocks ahead of schedule to implement course corrections or substitutes.
18. Adopt a forward-thinking approach towards business growth, adding value both technically and process-wise.
Key Deliverables:
Design Generation: Develop legal, feasible, and robust design concepts during the development phase. Optimize designs before B-release (production tooling) to meet:
19. Project weight and cost targets.
20. Customer seating attributes and best-in-class seating designs.
21. LAH requirements (Seating Functional targets).
22. Quality targets (Requirements).
23. All relevant worldwide legislations and certifications as applicable.
24. Relevant PVR testing requirements.
25. Ensure no new design proposal conflicts with existing worldwide patents without approval from the patent holder.
Module Leader Responsibilities:
26. Identify detailed FE modeling work required to support each design proposal.
27. Support the generation of local prototype models to validate interfaces/concepts and gap/fit conditions, functional assessment of seats ahead of EDSP data drops and B release (Part/material costs covered by Customer).
28. Prove foam and trim feasibility with Customer via physical models during development phases and before B-releasing any trimmed designs, as per the Trim Feasibility Task Instruction
29. Provide Design Check Property (DCP): Manage and support full Cockpit property builds (including sourcing all parts and fixings) from EDSPS,6,7 & 8 data drop to support engineering maturation and issue identification.
30. Ensure system requirements meet all worldwide legislative and VW group requirements.
31. Liaise with Customer Testing Team to develop robust test plans (DVP) for system validation, reviewed and agreed with Customer before validation commences.
32. Design a Seating rig and associated parts for prototype tooling to support the PAB development program (Ahead of B release).
33. Provide technical support for PAB test analysis (assumed to be undertaken on-site at Crewe), ensuring resolution of any Seating issues and collaborating with the Customer restraints team and Airbag supplier as necessary.
34. Lead cross-functional B-release reviews to ensure alignment across functions, and complete modifications to drawings/CAD based on feedback.
35. B-release all parts with Customer authorization into the KVS system. Define B-release schedule between supplier and Customer engineering, assumed to run over a 20-week period finishing at BF gateway.
36. Lead and support relevant engineering investigations through pre-production build phases, identifying root causes and proposing technical solutions (Audit/build/functional/drive feedback/Exec issues,.
37. Manage, design, and release engineering changes to resolve build issues, audit demerits, validation issues, and executive feedback concerns (AEKO/MMC).
38. Generate PDM (product description manual) for release to production 8 weeks prior to VFF SiP.
KNOWLEDGE/ EXPERIENCE
39. Proven program management capability demonstrated by recent delivery in line with time, Cost, quality & attribute targets.
40. Demonstrate you have delivered at least 2 programs from concept to SOP.
41. Ability to lead cross functional teams.
42. Ability to develop timing plan for complex programs, understating of financial implications.
43. Proven experience and deep knowledge in development and/or integration of Seating systems.
44. Engineering knowledge of defined component(s) / system(s) design, function, performance, production & manufacturing requirement.
45. Excellent communications skills demonstrated ability to communicate at all levels.
46. Liaise with supplier, Manufacturing, CAE& Validation Teams.
47. PC Literacy: Microsoft Project, Power Point, Excel, Word etc.,
48. CAD Literacy: Ability to generate and review CAD data in CATIA V5/NX.
49. Good understanding of BOM management, tracking changes to parts, tools.
50. Significant experience in use of engineering tools FMEA, Six Sigma, problem resolution etc.
