Job summary The Deputy Chief Medical Officer (DCMO), reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer, will support delivery of the CMO's extensive portfolio This role includes, providing visible professional medical leadership across Sherwood Forest Hospitals, supporting Divisional Chairs, Triumvirates, and Heads of Service in promoting patient safety, experience, and quality, while ensuring effective use of limited resources. It involves guiding the CMO's office in strategic and operational decisions, deputising at Board and sub-Board level, and chairing committees aligned with the CMO's portfolio and Trust's strategic direction. Portfolio composition can be discussed post-appointment, depending on the candidate's experience and development needs. As the CMO's portfolio evolves, the successful candidate's responsibilities may also be adjusted. The DCMO works closely with the Deputy Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Chief Nurse to provide medical leadership supporting patient flow. The role also acts as a key communication link between the CMO's office and the wider medical workforce, strengthening ties with the Chief Nurse's Office and portfolio. It is expected the DCMO will represent SFH at various external events, supporting our involvement in the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care Board and System. The post holder must comply with the Department of Health's Code of Conduct for NHS Managers (October 2002) completing a fit and proper person assessment.
