An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced registered Adult Nurse to join the Maternity department and provide optimum care to patients and their families, supporting the midwifery team.
This is for a 12 month fixed term Maternity Leave Cover.
Responsibilities include:
1. Undertaking routine post-operative care including all aspects of nursing care.
2. Immediate basic care of the newborn to include feeding support.
3. Supporting the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) including the increasing complexities of patients. No midwifery specific tasks to be undertaken.
4. Providing teaching, assessing, and supervising junior staff including student midwives and maternity support workers.
5. Demonstrating technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient care management including patient observations, equipment management, medication administration, wound care, and administration of agreed invasive tests/procedures.
6. Participating in Obstetric emergencies within scope of practice, working alongside the MDT and referring to a senior Midwife where appropriate.
7. Promotion of healthy lifestyles including smoking cessation.
8. Effectively communicating information regarding clinical decisions, policy, and care pathways to women and their families and the MDT, including situations where difficulties in comprehension occur.
9. Utilising IT systems to document accurate and timely patient care.
10. Providing support to women and their families during difficult situations within the clinical area.
11. Promoting and monitoring adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards.
