Job Title: Engineering Supervisor
Location: Doncaster
Salary: Up to £49,000 DOE + Benefits
Key Responsibilities:
1. Team Leadership: Manage and coordinate a team of multi-skilled engineers, focusing on both electrical and mechanical maintenance tasks. Provide guidance on planned and reactive maintenance activities, troubleshoot breakdowns, and spearhead continuous improvement initiatives.
2. Preventative Maintenance: Implement and follow a strict Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedule across all plant, equipment, and machinery. Ensure that maintenance is conducted in a safe and hygienic manner to maintain operational efficiency.
3. Troubleshooting & Repairs: Promptly address machinery breakdowns to minimize operational downtime. Conduct Root Cause Analysis on failures to enhance plant equipment efficiency and availability.
4. New Installations: Participate in the installation and commissioning of new machinery and equipment, ensuring proper documentation and safety protocols are followed.
5. Contractor Oversight: Supervise engineering and service contractors, ensuring onsite compliance and adherence to safety regulations.
6. On-Call Support: Participate in a call-out rota, remaining available for emergency situations that require immediate attention outside of normal working hours.
7. Health & Safety Responsibilities:
1. Safety Compliance: Ensure that all engineering activities are conducted safely, with an emphasis on protecting the health and safety of all employees.
2. Risk Management: Engage in regular workplace inspections and risk assessments to ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) regulations.
3. PPE & Best Practices: Adhere to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements and promote best safety practices across the site.
8. Communication:
1. Status Updates: Provide continuous updates on the status of plant equipment following PPMs, servicing, repairs, or breakdowns.
2. Cross-Department Liaison: Work closely with Production staff to minimize downtime and with equipment manufacturers to address technical concerns effectively.
9. Administrative Duties:
1. Documentation: Ensure all maintenance activities, breakdowns, and repairs are fully documented and recorded in the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
2. Inventory Management: Assist in managing the inventory of critical spares, ensuring timely reordering and proper documentation.
3. Team Management: Monitor and report on the engineering team's staffing levels and manage holiday schedules to maintain sufficient coverage.
4. Training Records: Maintain and update training records for engineers and machine minders, ensuring all staff are appropriately skilled.
Skills & Experience:
1. Technical Expertise: Proven experience as a multi-skilled Engineer with hands-on maintenance of both electrical and mechanical systems in a fast-paced, high-volume FMCG or food production environment.
2. Problem-Solving Skills: Strong track record in fault finding and troubleshooting.
3. Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, hydraulics, pneumatics, and industrial facilities maintenance. Experience with 3-phase systems, inverters, motors, PLCs, and PPMs is essential.
4. IT Skills: Intermediate knowledge of MS Office and experience with data logging systems.
Qualifications:
1. Mechanical/Electrical Engineering qualifications to HNC level or equivalent, along with successful completion of an Engineering Apprenticeship.
2. Minimum of five years in a similar supervisory role within a high-volume production environment.
Shift Pattern:
Flexibility to work varied shifts, covering both production and non-production hours.
