An exciting opportunity has arisen for a TB Enhanced Clinical Practitioner / trainee nurse specialist to join our dynamic nurse-led TB team based at the University Hospitals Dorset based at Poole hospital on the beautiful South coast.
Working alongside the TB ACP Nurse consultant, you will help to provide comprehensive TB services across East Dorset.
Previous TB experience is advantageous but not essential. The posts are being advertised as trainee ECP/CNS positions to enable the development of clinical skills, TB knowledge and experience. Persons already possessing ECP / ACP qualifications and skills are also encouraged to apply but the post is capped at a band 6. This is a 12-14 month fixed term contract covering maternity leave.

Main duties of the job
With support and supervision, the successful applicant will provide nurse led telephone and face to face clinics, diagnosing latent and active TB and NTM diseases. You will request investigations, advise and provide treatment, manage side effects, conduct TB contact tracing/screening and provide BCG vaccination. Care is delivered under the supervision of the ACP and TB Nurse Consultant.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate a desire to work with and develop expert TB knowledge and clinical skills and an ability to practice both autonomously and as part of a Multi-disciplinary team working within primary and secondary care settings.
Applicants must have a full and valid UK Drivers licence, be a competent and confident driver and have daily access to a roadworthy Car/Van or Motorbike and be prepared to travel across East Dorset and the surrounding areas to deliver care as and when needed, including without notice. Please note this will include travelling to areas not served by public transport and using both busy A and remote B roads.
Job responsibilities
With supervision and support, you will work towards autonomously undertaking assessment, diagnosis and management of patients with Tuberculosis (TB) including both latent and active stages and other mycobacterial diseases.
You will acquire the skills and knowledge to be an accountable person, responsible for managing practice, using an enhanced level of professional accountability, autonomy and judgement for complex decision-making within the TB Service, working across primary and secondary care settings developing an advanced level of professional accountability and autonomy.
Through training, you will develop the ability to work autonomously, using enhanced clinical knowledge and skills, underpinned by theory and experience, to holistically assess patients with often complex conditions, using a range of methods across the specialist service.

* Current registration with relevant UK professional body E.G. NMC
* Demonstrates significant evidence of on-going continuous professional development

* Diploma/degree level study/training in a relevant subject area E.G TB, Public Health, Health Protection, Respiratory nursing etc
Experience

* Demonstrates thorough and up-to-date knowledge of best practice, particularly within specialty area and the application of this in practice.

* Previous substantive experience of working with people with TB or stigmatised conditions

* Able to demonstrate theoretical and practical knowledge of TB specialty and common presentations.
