A great opportunity has arisen for someone to take the next step in their career in our EPOC as a Sister/Nurse.
The EPOC unit is a 7 bedded Unit caring for higher risk elective surgical patients. Here we aim to provide an environment with a higher acuity of interventions, monitoring and nursing ratios to facilitate the highest standards of nursing care. Patients are identified pre-operatively as requiring an enhanced level of care for 24-48 hours post-operatively.
To be the lead nurse for the Enhanced Perioperative Care Unit (EPOC) providing effective, professional nursing leadership and direction for the nursing workforce and the wider department team.
To be a highly competent, knowledgeable and visible practitioner setting the highest standards of care and ensuring the provision of appropriate, evidence based care for all patients/clients.
To ensure the safe, effective management of all workforce and financial resources within their clinical area.
To demonstrate an innovative and progressive attitude to continual improvement of patient care.
Main duties of the job
As part of the multi-disciplinary team, and under the supervision of the Clinical Matron, the post-holder will utilise their specialist knowledge and skills to:
* Provide support to patients and staff in the delivery of high standards of patient assessment at all times, collaborate with other health care professionals as required and challenge poor practice, in accordance with the NMC Professional code and Trust policies and procedures.
* Ensure agreed systems and processes to consistently provide safe, effective, high quality care and embed a culture of improvement, focusing on the Trust's harm-free indicators, measuring practice and using variations in the data to develop local improvement projects are in place.
* Promote and maintain a safe, welcoming and comfortable environment for the patients, carers, and staff, ensuring that all are received in a professional and courteous manner.
* Understand and apply the legal safeguarding framework that supports the identification of vulnerable and abused adults/children and be aware of statutory vulnerable patients' health procedures and Trust guidance.

Qualifications
Essential
* Relevant professional/clinical qualification: Registered Nurse on appropriate part of the NMC Register
* Educated to degree level or equivalent level of experience.
Desirable
* Requirement to complete the Trust Managers Passport - within the first year in post if not already completed.
* Master's Level 7 qualification / willingness to obtain.
Experience
Essential
* Extensive post registration experience including significant experience within relevant speciality at Band 6 or equivalent.
* Experience of mentoring, supervision and teaching and assessment.
* Evidence of having developed team working skills and implemented team working practices - this includes the ability to enthuse, motivate and involve all team members.
* Meeting challenging deadlines and delivering under pressure.
Desirable
* Evidence of experience within High Care, Critical Care or High Dependency
* Budget management.
* Successful track record in conflict resolution and performance management.
* Evidence of Roster Writing.
* Evidence of reporting on DATIX'S.
