Health Surveillance Adviser
Edinburgh and Glasgow
Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.
At Scottish Water we look after Scotland’s most precious natural resource. From source to tap, we’re guarding Scotland’s reputation for refreshingly pure water, and caring for our environment at the same time. Our Health Surveillance Team plays a key role in ensuring workplace safety and keeping our workers safe.
We’re looking for a Health Surveillance Adviser to join our team. In this role, you’ll be instrumental in driving Occupational Health compliance across Scottish Water, ensuring that regulatory standards are consistently met to protect our workforce.
What you’ll do:
1. Support Scottish Water’s Health Surveillance programmes, ensuring our workforce remains safe and healthy across all regions, including the mainland and island communities.
2. Coordinate and support health surveillance activities, managing data, scheduling assessments, and ensuring all health records are accurate and compliant with regulatory standards.
3. Act as the main point of contact for health-related queries, facilitating communication with employees and health providers to deliver timely assessments and guidance.
4. Maintain high standards in record-keeping, data accuracy, and reporting, managing health surveillance systems, compiling reports, and conducting technical troubleshooting.
5. Implement improvements within health surveillance processes to support continuous improvement and ensure efficiency across all teams.
6. Work closely with both internal teams and external providers to maintain compliance with health and safety regulations.
7. Support a positive health and safety culture by assisting in documentation, sharing best practices, and delivering insights that drive employee health and wellbeing.
What you’ll need:
1. Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with experience in data management, scheduling, and accurate record-keeping.
2. Proficiency in using health surveillance software and data tools like Microsoft Office.
3. A background in occupational health, health administration, or health and safety, with an understanding of relevant health and safety regulations.
4. Knowledge of health surveillance or occupational health software.
5. Effective communication skills to work closely with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
If you’re committed to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace and have a proactive approach to improving health surveillance processes, you’ll thrive in this role.
Looking out for you:
We make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance. You’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). You can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take paid time off to volunteer in your community.
We have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave, and we embrace flexible working.
For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), as well as life assurance. You can expect an annual company bonus and access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.
The not-so-small print:
This role will be a Grade 6. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £33,560, with performance-driven pay progression to a maximum of £44,140.
If you’re interested in this role, we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on 16th December, 2024, with interviews planned for w/c 7th January, 2025.
Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, including referencing, criminal record checks, and license checks.
A few final things worth knowing: Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you’re interested in this job but don’t tick all the boxes, apply anyway! We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One.
Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. We’re very used to making adjustments, so please don’t be afraid to ask.
As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland.
Finally, candidates who haven’t submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database.
We’re here to help. Ask us anything at SWRecruitment@ScottishWater.co.uk
