CRN clinical research fellow attached to the breast unit. Optional on call duties to support general surgery. To support and develop clinical research in the breast unit. Working with the cancer research nurses and the breast unit research lead. This post would suit a candidate interested in a career breast disease management whether surgical, oncology, pathology or radiology.
Main duties of the job
1. Optional : On call cover for general surgery pro rata at “SHO” level. Surgical operative experience is not required. General surgery ward cover as required.
2. 50% of daytime activity to support breast clinical research. The prime aim is to ensure that HHFT increases recruits to NIHR portfolio studies. You will be required to consent patients to trials, collate clinical data and to help ensure accurate follow up data. You may be require to support generic vaccine trials.
3. Attendance at CRN research fellow development days. The post holder will be expected to gain experience to allow them to become confident as a principle investigator (PI).
4. You will be expected to develop your clinical skills in the management of breast disease and your educational needs will be tailored according to your career intentions.
5. Clinical care of breast patients as required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
6. Provide care to emergency general surgery cases while on call.
7. Provide support to the breast unit – ward cover, assist in theatre, outpatients.
8. Provide clinical expertise to the cancer research nurses to ensure clinical information on patients in trials are collated in a timely fashion.
9. Support patients while recruiting to clinical trials.
