The Role
As a Planning Officer at DNPA, you’ll provide advice and guidance on planning-related matters to applicants, agents, the public, authority members and parish/town councils. Monitoring developments, you will deal with a range of development management casework. You will investigate and resolve alleged unauthorised developments within the National Park, dealing with the associated development management casework in line with relevant policies, procedures and enforcement codes of practice.
Taking a team-focused approach to your work, you will:
1. Provide a prompt, helpful and courteous response to planning-related enquiries
2. Offer advice by discussion and negotiation with applicants, and/or their agents
3. Examine and consider a range of applications initially with the integrated development management team in accordance with statutory deadlines
4. Carry out site inspections and negotiations with applicants and/or their agents and specialist staff
5. Ensure that approved plans are complied with, and the requirements of conditions are met
6. Maintain accurate and reliable records
7. Help to prepare appeal statements and proofs of evidence and provide factual evidence at hearings, public inquiries and at Court
8. Present planning reports to the Development Management Committee and at member site inspections
9. Assist Legal representatives in the preparation of legal agreements
10. Prepare appeal statements and proofs of evidence for hearings and public inquiries

About You
To be considered as a Planning Officer, you will need:
1. Experience of local government or public sector, working within development management
2. Knowledge and experience of legislation in relation to gathering evidence for Court proceedings and experience of giving evidence in similar situations
3. Up to date knowledge of planning laws and procedures
4. Experience of investigating potential breaches of planning and advertisement consent
5. Practical experience in the use of a range of IT applications for storing, retrieving and communicating information
The ideal candidate will be a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI). Although we would be committed to supporting the right candidate through studies to achieve the RTPI qualification whilst in employment. Experience of visiting and dealing with the public, agents and elected Members on development management matters would be beneficial to your application. An understanding of design and the built environment would also be advantageous, as would an understanding of the role of National Park Authorities and of planning issues specific to National Parks.
