2 day shift and 1 night shift - 12.15 hr shift, 36-48hrs per week (contract to 34.5/46 hrs - minus half hour break)
Accountable to: Operations Manager
Reports to: Care Centre Manager
Job Purpose
In conjunction with the Care Centre (home) Manager provide leadership and direction to team members to promote quality person centred care to residents.
To facilitate effective communication between team members and professional colleagues.
To take charge of the home as necessary.
To actively contribute to the development of the home.
To supervise, support and develop junior staff.
To assess residents’ health and wellbeing on a continual basis.
Management
To take charge of the home as required for a span of duty ensuring smooth management of the shift.
As required undertake on-call duties.
Contribute to the efficient and effective use of resources.
Through the implementation of the Company policies assist in the management of staff performance.
Assist in the management of the monitoring of staff sickness and absence by completion of appropriate forms.
As necessary assist in the recruitment of staff.
To ensure that the homes operates in accordance with the Company’s policies and procedures.
Contribute to the development of the home.
Staff Development
To assist in the induction of new employees.
To participate in the appraisal and supervision of staff.
To act as a role model for staff.
To participate in teaching sessions for staff.
Human Resources
To assist as necessary in the recruitment of staff.
As necessary take appropriate action to ensure staff levels are maintained e.g. sickness cover.
To ensure accurate records by way of duty rotas and sickness and absence are maintained.
Resident Care and Services.
To deliver a highquality service to all residents.
To be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of residents care needs.
To assist in the delivery of care to meet the individual needs of residents.
To be responsible for maintaining accurate care records other records/documents. As necessary, based on changes to assessed care needs, update care records, informing team members of changes to the residents care plan.
Identify and report any changes that might affect the residents’ health and wellbeing and take appropriate action, seeking medical advice as necessary.
To delegate appropriately to other team members.
Ensure the implementation of the correct procedures to maintain safe handling, storage and administration of medicines.
To adopt an approach to care which recognises residents as individuals, promotes independence and involvement, seeks consent, respects residents’ rights, choices and beliefs and achieves positive outcomes.
Encourage residents to express their views.
Ensure as appropriate relatives are kept informed of changes or any other matter relating to the care of the resident.
Ensure an appropriate exchange of information between all grades of staff which promotes continuity of care.
Report any shortfalls in the provision of care to the Care Home Manager
To ensure care practices are reflective of the requirements of the NMC and that such practices are reviewed and developed.
Communication
Participate in staff meetings.
Ensure effective communication between team members and professional colleagues.
Maintain confidentiality both written and spoken word.
Quality
Ensure any concerns or complaints are responded to in accordance with the Company policy.
General
Each registered nurse is accountable for his or her practice, and in the exercise of professional accountability, shall act in accordance with the guidance laid down in the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
Ensure confidentiality is maintained in handling all sensitive information to include resident and staff information. Files should be kept locked away. Information should not be left out.
Maintain accurate records in accordance with Company policies.
To demonstrate on-going professional development and maintain a personal development portfolio.
Attend in-house training sessions.
Night Duty
This is a wakeful night duty unless otherwise notified.
Health and Safety
To ensure all requirements of the Health and Safety at Work (Etc) Act 1974 and Fire Regulations are adhered to and as appropriate report matters to the Care Home Manager.
Maintain a safe working environment for self, colleagues, residents and others, monitor work areas and practices ensuring they are free from hazards and conform to health and safety legislation.
