Stadler Rail Service UK Limited (SRS UK) is a subsidiary of Stadler. SRS UK provides a train maintenance service for a growing number of clients in the UK. In the next few years over 150 new Stadler trains will be joining the UK Rail Network which signifies the start of an exciting future for Stadler in the UK. Our current depot locations are in Cardiff, Glasgow, Liverpool, Newcastle and Norwich offering a wide scope of opportunity for someone looking to develop a career in the UK Rail Industry.
We are seeking to appoint a Materials Manager to join our Supply Chain and Logistics team at our Glasgow depot. Reporting to the Head of UK Supply Chain and Logistics, the successful candidate will be responsible for materials management, including warranty information and materials planning to ensure the delivery of compliant materials that support the production process.
In this role, you will support the business by ensuring that tools and materials are available at the point of use, enabling timely train provision while consistently meeting criteria for product and people safety, reliability, environmental standards, and train presentation (both interior and exterior). You will also ensure compliance with industry, engineering, and production best practices and standards.
Your duties will include
1. Manage the purchasing of materials to ensure availability and compliance.
2. Maintain the quality of purchased materials through effective stock and warehouse management.
3. Develop and deliver long-term fleet material management strategies.
4. Ensure all activities adhere to safety standards and performance targets, maintaining a safe working environment for staff and contractors.
5. Oversee the maintenance and implementation of stores systems, processes, and procedures.
6. Manage contracts and relationships with suppliers to support depot operations.
7. Deliver materials in accordance with agreements made with the Production Manager and Head of Production.
8. Monitor store performance regarding productivity and efficiency, ensuring delivery within agreed budgets.
9. Collaborate with the Head of Production, Shift Production Managers, and Head of Performance to forecast material requirements.
10. Purchase all necessary materials in line with production needs.
11. Manage supplier warranty information effectively.
12. Ensure materials are available according to the stocking policy, facilitating just-in-time delivery to meet stock value and turnover ratios.
13. Verify that all suppliers meet the company's minimum material quality specifications, particularly for safety-critical parts. Manage overdue materials and facilitate timely resolution with suppliers to minimise delays.
14. Promote inter-departmental cooperation and maintain effective communication across all relevant levels of the organisation, particularly with internal Production and Technical teams.
15. Arrange for the prompt repair, replacement, or recalibration of tools and equipment used for maintenance, in collaboration with customer and production teams.
