We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our supportive and inclusive school community. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about working with children with additional needs and wants to make a real difference in their learning journey.
Role Overview:
In the morning, you will be supporting children with additional needs in KS1, helping them access the curriculum and providing tailored assistance to help them thrive in a mainstream classroom environment. In the afternoon, you will be providing one-to-one support to a pupil with Down Syndrome, ensuring they can fully engage with their individual learning plan and develop their confidence in a supportive setting.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist children with additional needs in KS1, including supporting their learning and social development.
2. Implement specific strategies to support the individual needs of each child, ensuring they can fully participate in lessons and activities.
3. Provide one-to-one support for a pupil with Down syndrome, offering personalised assistance to help them access the curriculum and engage in activities.
4. Support the child in developing their independence, communication, and social skills.
5. Work closely with the class teacher and other professionals to monitor progress and make adjustments to strategies as needed.
6. Foster a positive, encouraging environment where children feel safe, supported, and confident to learn.
7. Provide feedback to parents and staff on the pupil's progress and any concerns or achievements.
Key Qualities & Skills:
1. Experience working with children with additional needs, especially in KS1.
2. Understanding of Down Syndrome and experience supporting children with this condition would be an advantage.
3. Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children.
4. Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with both children and colleagues.
5. A proactive and flexible approach to meeting the needs of individual children.
6. Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or equivalent) are desirable but not essential.
