Healthy Child & Young Person Assistant - School Nursing (Band 3)

Are you interested in working with children to ensure healthy outcomes for all? Would you like to be part of a friendly, innovative Public Health Nursing team 5-19? We have two posts available for a Healthy Child and Young Person Assistant, one post based at Queensway Health Clinic in Hatfield and one post based at Herts and Essex Hospital in Bishops Stortford.
This post is suitable for people with NVQ level 3 in Early Years or Childcare (BTEC, NNEB, CACHE Diploma) or previous experience as a Healthy Child and Young Person Assistant.
The positions will assist in the delivery of the universal Healthy Child and Public Health Nursing Programme as part of the Hertfordshire Family Center Service. You will be working under the supervision of a Public Health Nurse to help improve the health & well-being of our school population. The main role includes planning, organizing & undertaking routine screening of hearing & vision of reception children, as well as measuring children in reception class & Year 6 as part of the National Child Measurement Programme.

The successful candidates will:
1. Be team players and also able to work independently.
2. Have excellent communication skills to use with children and young people, plus a variety of clients, professionals & staff.
3. Have experience of electronic record keeping (this would be an advantage although full training will be given).
4. Have a full valid driving license and access to a car for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).
We are looking for candidates that can work 22.5 hours a week.

Key Responsibilities:
* Planning, organizing, and undertaking measurement of height and weight of children in school years reception and Year 6 (National Child Measurement Programme) with accurate charting and recording of results using SystmOne.
* Planning, organizing, and undertaking vision and audiology screening procedures for reception-aged children, as per Trust Clinical guidelines.
* Communicate results of health surveillance/health screening to parent/carer using the S1 template letter and report back to PHN as necessary.
* Maintain an awareness of indicators of child or adult abuse. Follow Trust and County Child Protection procedures, reporting all concerns regarding clients to the PHN.
* Assist and participate in organizing and preparing health promotion materials, displays, and events.
* Data entry/changes onto SystmOne to support own practice. Ensure up-to-date information is available via SystmOne reports and maintenance of appropriate records.
* Be responsible for ongoing personal development and take an active part in identifying own training needs and attending training as necessary.
* Be aware of the need for, and maintain, confidentiality in all areas of work.
* Carry out other tasks suitable for the job role as requested by the manager.
