Summary:
Responsible for the planning and implementation of daily classroom curriculum activities for a group of up to 20 children, up to 4 years of age. Assists in the delivery of health, education, and social services to Head Start Program children and their families, including those with intellectual and/or physical disabilities. Participates in the active supervision of children arriving and departing on buses as assigned and/or needed.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Locations: St. Clair, Cambridge Maryland
Starting Hourly rate:
Teacher I - $19.25/hour
Teacher II - $21.40/hour
Teacher III - $23.56/hour
Teacher I:
1. Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or related field including Child Development, Special Education, Human Development/Ecology, Child Studies, Psychology-Birth to 8 with a majority of credits in ECE.
2. Experience working with infants and toddlers or preschoolers as applicable is preferred.
Teacher II:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or related field including Child Development, Special Education, Human Development/Ecology, Child Studies, Psychology-Birth to 8 with a majority of credits in ECE.
2. Experience working with infants and toddlers or preschoolers as applicable is preferred.
Teacher III:
1. Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field including Child Development, Special Education, Human Development/Ecology, Child Studies, Psychology-Birth to 8 with a majority of credits in ECE or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or related field with Teaching license/certification.
2. Experience working with infants and toddlers or preschoolers as applicable is preferred.
The primary responsibilities include:
1. Plan and provide learning opportunities to students that support growth in the areas of cognition, early literacy, language, social development, play skills, fine and gross motor development, fine arts, adaptive/self-care skills, health, and nutrition.
2. Implement a developmentally appropriate and ongoing assessment of student progress.
3. Follow Head Start and school district policies for referring children for further diagnostic evaluation when necessary.
4. Communicate with Head Start families on a regular basis via home visits, parent conferences, written materials, and informal personal and telephone contacts.
5. Promote and model good health and nutrition practices to children and families.
6. Monitor the health and safety of students while at school.
7. Use appropriate guidance strategies to help children learn socially acceptable behavior.
8. Maintain written reports and records as required by the Head Start program.
9. Maintain a positive working relationship with students, families, colleagues, and community members that will promote effective communication and collaboration.
10. Actively seek to involve parents and families in the educational process and development of their children.
11. Maintain the confidentiality of students and families as set forth in SHORE UP! Inc. and Head Start policies.
12. Provide appropriate work directions and oversee the daily responsibilities of the classroom volunteers.
13. Participate in required staff meetings and staff development opportunities.
14. Maintain knowledge of the current trends and research in the field of early childhood education.
15. Select and order necessary classroom supplies and materials.
16. Other duties as assigned.
